I went to the Festival of Motoring on Saturday and stumbled on this new 'Coventry' beauty - the David Brown Speedback - built on the current XJ. Yours sir for £495,000. It was actually shown by Premier Group Engineering who do the Bodywork - as a Coventry lad it was terrific to see a new Coventry built car built by Coventry skilled engineers once more. And the lads on the stand were superb - no fenced off roping - they showed me all around the car and let me sit in and fire up! Probably the most expensive vehicle I've sat in and it was sat on its own in the corner of 'shed' - one of only a handful of finished vehicles in the world! How brilliant to see we can still 'turn 'um out' Thumbs up

Wow Neil, thanks for the pics, I'm amazed that they let anyone near it! It looks very much like the Aston doesn't it, and, very strange coincidence (I think I'm right in saying) that the owner of the company is also called David Brown! Did you order one? Big grin

Was great to see. Crazy money really Tony but there's always someone with a wallet large enough who wants something different without a thought to the cost. The fit and finish was superb but the real joy for me was talking to the Premier lads who were all ex-other car manufacturer trained and were all chuffed to bits that its a bit of Coventry engineering once more. The DB link is a complete coincidence though he is trying his best to deny its a complete DB5 copy Big grin More info here.

Had a lovely day at a car show at Middleton Hall near Tamworth. Spotted this Singer Nine, kept on the road by this lovely 80 year old lady.

Came across this interesting article online. Some lovely pictures. Love the one of the pre war Daimler, shows just how massive it was and I worked in the remaining office building when it was the EMEB offices. Autocar article.

That is a good article, Anne, thank you. I didn't know about many of those old factory locations! I was a little shocked to see one inaccuracy in the paragraph about the London Road Cemetery, though, which stated "A memorial marks the mass grave of 808 civilians killed in the Coventry blitz on 12 October 1940"!!! Oh my

Haven't read this article yet but there was an article about 3/4 years ago - pre covid - which had a map of Coventry and showed where all of the car manufacturers over the years had workshops or factories. The mind boggled at the quantity. It could have been the Autocar article, a friend sent it to me via email but I couldn't enlarge it enough to read most of it.
