My best friend and I went to watch Coventry City in about 1955. I was 11, my best friend, Roy, was 10. We lived in Sewall Highway, not far from the Number 7 bus terminus. We were given our bus fare, probably 1d or maybe 2d. Also our entrance money. Not sure, as youngsters we were very cheap. May have been 9d, or perhaps even a shilling. Obviously, no spending money, unless we opted to walk, for one of the bus journeys. Happy days. Would be in the ground about 1-30.

March '76 was my first game with my Dad at Highfield Road - vs Newcastle. I still have the programme somewhere back in my Mum's loft.

I went to the game on Tuesday night. Beat that! Smile I first went up in the early to mid 70s, although I can't remember which game was my first.

Dont remember exactly, but Arthur Lightening was in goal, so it must have been between 1958 and 1962. Also remember, we were allowed to sit on the surrounding wall.

When I was in junior school my dad used to take me to all the away matches, Cov being in second division. That would have been 1947.

I first went to Highfield Rd in the early 60's, in the Third Division days of Hale, Hudson, and Humphries. I went with my father, we travelled over from Leamington courtesy of Midland Red. I can remember a Division Two fixture against Preston when a young lad called Howard Kendall played for Preston, and skipping a few years the first Sunday fixture versus Derby County in the old First Division, was it season 73/74? I first went to Brandon in 1964, again with my father, and again courtesy of a Midland Red 'special'. Coventry V Norwich in the old National League and we missed the first heat because the bus driver got lost! Only Nigel Boocock up against Ove Fundin! I remember the promoter Charles Ochiltree threatening to ban 'Glad All Over' by the Dave Clark Five because the old wooden grandstand certainly shook up and down when Mick and his mates all stamped their feet. to the beat. The following year saw the opening of the new grandstand which was faced in that wonder material of the 1960's - asbestos. Over subsequent years my love of Speedway waned although I did see Ole Olsen a couple of times, and also Chris Harris at the Cardiff Grand Prix a good few years back. I was back at Brandon when the great Nigel Boocock's ashes were interred under the track surface, a truly moving day. I first saw the stock cars in 1964 and continued to watch them at Brandon right up to 2016. Hopefully I will watch again at some point. I went to a cycle racing meeting at the old Butts Stadium in about 1965, but never saw a match at Coundon Rd or even the now defunct Wasps at what was then the Ricoh. I did visit their shop to buy various bits of kit for both my son and grandsons though. I have been to the new Butts Stadium, but only for a vintage bus event a few years back.

I only ever went to Highfield Road once, mid 60's. It was a foggy day and you could not see other end of the pitch !
