If I remember correctly hardly anyone ever used that particular ramp as it was much easier to use the stairs under the bridge.

They must have started ripping these out a few years after building them! I am not sad to see them go.

On 29th May 2012 1:59pm, Adrian said: This looks like Fairfax St, strangely, I don't remember them being here. 1960s or 70s I would guess.
Brilliant photo! Brings back memories. Can you remember what the shop was just out of shot, on the right of the picture? Lol

I think there was Supreme Coaches, Wainfleet Coaches, Harry Shaw's before they moved into the top of Pool Meadow, The Christian Bookshop, a cafe on the end nearest Pool Meadow, and I think a flower shop.
Always looking forward to looking at the past.

There was one other little subway - if you can call it that - it was the walk through to the car park from Market Way. That coffee shop and that smell, pure pleasure. I think it was the Barracks carpark (maybe something to do with Coventry Castle?) Wave
Always looking forward to looking at the past.

Not quite that old I'm afraid Baz. The Coventry cavalry barracks dates from 1793 and was established in the very long yard behind the Bull Inn in Smithford Street, hence "Bull Yard".

The subway that came out in Owen Owen, now Primark, opposite was the other entrance like was said in Trinity Street which was next to Trinity Church next to the old shops which used to be there just in case any one was wondering where it was in Trinity Street

Has the Hill Street subway been lost now that the bridge has been built?

Don't think I've ever used it and judging by the people in the photo it seems no one else did either? Roll eyes

Very few did that side - it was the ramp on the other side nearer to Pool Meadow that was more commonly trod for shoppers entering/exiting town.

If my memory serves me correctly, that particular subway resurfaced outside 'Evans the Outsize' shop! Big grin
