If I remember rightly wasn't the shored-up building what was left of The Grapes pub. Also I believe the pub on the opposite corner to the Three Tuns was The Peeping Tom. I seem to also remember that part of the Liberal Club during the late 50s and early 60s become one of the first nightclubs in Coventry and was called the Elite Club. |

Thanks to Debbie & Dean Nelson on the True Cov FB page - I think (though please correct me if not!) this still shows Union Street before 'New' Union Street - Christchurch Spire to the right - Bull Yard and the 'Dome' in the distance and the Liberal Club to the left which I believed disappeared as part of the change to 'New Union' - photo must be mid-late 60's, if someone knows the exact date 'New Union' came in?

A new cracker from my FB friend Cliff Berwick
August 1941. There was still some great detail on that building -
The Municipal Lodgings Bureau, Union Street.
The old Temperance Hotel.

Neil, what is the strange thing that looks a bit like a ramp on the left of the picture? |

Isn't it a glass window pane carrier of olden times? |

Well it wasn't there long. Actually think it may be a watermark on the image.

Very nice pair of picture there Neil. I find it interesting how buildings changed over the years. |

I also like how they tie up images together. This view of Warwick Lane and The Grapes, you can see the GL Jackson wording.

Agreed. Look how small The Grapes is in relation. The building in between might be old too. The first floor windows and doors are on the same levels. I've got a picture that might possibly show timber and plaster in the passage to the back. Or maybe I'm overreaching. |

Thanks for the photos Neil. That bridge across Warwick Lane I believe connected the Holbrooks furniture store top of Hertford St perhaps with their stockroom or another showroom? Anyone know? |
