Radio and TV - Memories and Favourites

I used to get confused as a little kid, watching the Gerry Anderson programme, The Secret Service, with Stanley Unwin playing Father Stanley Unwin, who looked a bit like Father Stanley Owen who ran my local church!

Don't worry, I'm keeping ok. That particular video I have never seen before, but caught me. Very samey, most of the time. You know how YouTube offers you recommend clips from our viewing history. I was watching a clip of the PG Tips chimps the other night, but fell asleep. When I awoke at midnight on the couch, it was playing Balamory. There's little hope, hey!

Donald Peers, popular vocalist in 40's- 50s, was standing at the bus stop bottom of Holyhead Road and my Nanna, Mary Kendall, was waiting for the same bus to take her home to Malvern Rd, Coundon. She recognised him, and I believe they exchanged a few words. He was then appearing at the Hippodrome. I am one of a few now who remember hearing him on the radio.

Oh, I remember him Prof but can't remember his regular songs. Heaven forbid, am I still remembering that far back ? Eeeeeek !

Vaguely Argon, I was pleading with my father to go mad and think about a television around that time. I was sick of listening to Dick Barton and the Dales.

Argon, having just looked up details of Ronnie Ronalde I do remember his whistling (In a monastery garden). I can't say he was at the top of my list.

My dad was a Ronald Ronalde fan but then he love to whistle around the house. Men used to whistle a lot then, not so much now. I used to go to a gym some years ago and another patron who used the bikes whistled a lot. I always tried to get a bike fairly close him so that I could enjoy some memories. I can still whistle a bit myself.

You are so right Linda, about how men used to whistle more years ago. When I worked at Alfred Herbert at Red Lane, a fellow in the office never stopped whistling. No particular tune, just whistled as if he simply had to. I think it was more of a habit than anything else.

I tried to teach my grandson to whistle with mixed results.

Linda, I think it helps if you still have a full set of teeth. (nothing personal, just a thought)

I have my teeth but I always thought you could be a better whistler if you had a gap to whistle through.
