Nice find mcsporran I'm always amazed at todays Hertford 'Street' and the lie of the land in its pedestrianised format. As can be seen in mcsporrans photo Hertford Street has quite a gradient and to get it to todays view - where the ground has been 'levelled' where the shops are under cover must have taken some movement of land/earth. |

In its pedestrianised format Hertford Street is no longer the thoroughfare it once was - it is a series of spaces. These pictures taken as still frames from my Go-Pro perhaps demonstrate what I mean.

It'll never be as bad as Hales Street (I hope) with an obscenely gigantic block of flats stuck next to the few remaining antique buildings, that even blocks off the open patch of sky when looking downhill from Butcher Row.

Even in the 60's Hertford Street was always an odd looking street. There were never any shops that would make me want to go down there. If I needed to get to that end of town I would go through the Precinct and Market Way. At least in those days the Precinct appeared planned. The existing street layout around it never quite seemed finished off. |

Don't think I have seen this one before, Midland Daily Telegraph offices 18 Hertford Street I believe. Bombed on 15th October 1940 the only day they weren't able to produce a newspaper. Became the Coventry Evening Telegraph in 1941

Yes Roger, the whole thing looks a bit dodgy, would you fancy standing on the top of a crumbling building? Reminds me of Fred Dibnah and his chimneys, |

That has to be older than me that one, judging by the tramlines. Thanks Neil, another pat on the back. |

Interesting view, not seen that one before.
A shame this wasn't rebuilt rather than turned into a total pit.

Thanks Neil, for the photo 148 from both myself and the wife as that's the place the wife got her wedding dress, just under the bridge on the left, 55 years ago I've also driven on the road a few times to cross town. |
