Hi all I come from a long line of Coventrians and pre-war and during the war years, my grandparents and great grandparents ran newsagents in the city on Rudge Road and Warwick Row - number 27 Warwick Row and prior to that it was based at the end where Loveitt estate agents are based now. I am trying to find any photos or information, particularly on the one in Rudge Road that my nan and grandad, Eva and Robert White, used to run. Anything you have would be great. Thank you.

Lived at Croft Road until 1959, can remember the small newsagents at No 50 Rudge Rd, delivered newspapers for the Warwick Row outlet - did not realise they were related - seem to recall it being run by a Mr Adams?

I can remember going into the Rudge Road shop many times as a child when I visited my grandmother who lived in Rudge Road, usually for lemonade or sweets as I remember.

All. Looking at Prof's image in post #10, I always thought this was looking at the southern end of Rudge Road, with Rudge Road itself going off to the left, north. However, looking at this one on Cov Archives, it suggests it's no.29 which was the property at the southern end, and looking north, as you can see the GEC in the background - but the properties are different. So which end is which as I've lost my bearings with them now?

I can see why it's difficult to orientate ourselves, Neil! But I've just had a quick look on Britain from Above and a 1906 map, and it seems that even though Prof's photo was labelled "Rudge Road Top Shops", those top shops were, misleadingly, actually not directly in that street, but halfway between (and parallel with) the north end of Rudge Road and Albion Street. I reckon they're the place labelled "Poddy Croft Terrace" in post 5 above. Thumbs up

Ahh, nice one, Rob - I was so confused. So can anyone pin-point where the photographer is standing on Prof's image on Dutchman's map for me? Is it by the last D in RUDGE ROAD?

Yes, I think you're right - probably in the corner by the little "rp".
