Your very welcome Prof. I know the areas you mention as I use to live in Keresley Village on Knowles Farm, also for a short while on the Tanyard Farm estate the other end of Banner Lane, which also was a farm. I wonder if those out buildings are still there now as they had built a housing estate by there last I drove up there. Nice bit of family history you have there. |

I can't see the reason for this road being built as Browns Lane is in Allesley not Coundon or Keresley. I am wondering when it said Keresley & Coundon new homes to be built where is there land in Coundon to be built on unless it's Coundon Wedge which will fit with the road from Browns Lane to Keresley. |

I remember calling at Gilkes on the way to school in the fifties, sugar was still rationed so the only 'sweets' we could get were Horlicks and Zubes. kbrresident

Going back to the original question about the building on the green near the Shepherd, my family moved to Keresley in 1961 when I was eleven and I have reasonably clear memory of that large house standing about where the flats are now.
We knew it was something to do with the Church nearby.
It was derelict and the inside had been stripped out.
There was a small shop nearby where we could buy cigarettes individually and we would gain access to the house for a smoke and a general vandalism session.
It was quite dangerous in there and we used to frighten each other with tales of it being haunted.
It was demolished round about that time and the flats were built. |

Hello there JJG. You may also remember the small old church that stood on the site of the new doctors, next to the Coronation Club. I don't think there were graves there, but there was a small church. Someone told me years ago now that there was also a toilet block across the road from the old school, but it was only what I was told. Reading through this topic, I think someone said that the green may have at one time been the playground area for the school. Always looking forward to looking at the past.

Hello there Morgana. It may have been a school, or a church. Not really sure. The school relating to part this topic was where the flats now stand, in New Road. I can just remember a church like building where the doctors now stand. It was on waste land for years before they built on it. Always looking forward to looking at the past.

Yes where the flats were and where the doctors are now were both schools the one by the flats was a grand building the other school next to the Coronation club was an infant school sure it was called Springfield school. Disorganise on here went to this school along with a friend of mine who lived 46 Bennett Road just up the road from it. I use to hang around that area from 11 years old. I recall the Shepherd and Shepherdess having a garden grass and a shed at the back facing Keresley Rd that was open but covered you from the rain where you could sit on benches with grass in front which were at the side of the pub now a car park. |

As this post is about Keresley, can someone please tell me where I would find Electoral Roles from the 50's and 60's for Keresley?
Many thanks in anticipation |

Yes, but Keresley appears to come under a parliamentary seat, maybe Nuneaton, not sure.
