Morgana, hope this does not get me in to trouble. There were so many complaints about men leaving the Hit or Miss pub at night, and using the waste ground on the opposite side of the road that the council built a toilet block on the waste ground. The first night of official opening and a policeman caught a fellow ***ing against the outside wall of the toilet, nicked him and he was duly fined. Sitting in the pub, Navigation?, side of canal, Bulkington Lane, with my brother-in-law, one damp evening, fellow enters bar, orders three pints of beer, drinks out of one, places it on the corner of bar, picks up the other two and goes outside for sometime. Story was he was a boatman, and when he tied up nearby, he would then ride his horse along the towpath to the pub, tie it up at the bridge, fetch it two pints of beer, then return to the pub. Later he would ride it back to the boat. It was said that people had seen him riding the horse, both drunk, along the canal towpath. Never did get to talk to Jack Hackett about his uniform.

Kaga I dont think you will get any one in trouble re the men using the waste ground by the Hit or Miss. Love the story of the boatman and his horse drunk perhaps you should publish your books. My sister here in Coventry is doing a signing on the 29th at the Library for her small paper back book also its on Kindle. I am sure yours would be more interesting as yours are about Coventry..

Hi all Chaos after houses on either side of a road are given the same numbers

Hunt for the lost Statue. This fantastic piece of workmanship was done by POWs based at Arbury Hall during the war. The last anyone seen of it was being loaded onto a lorry. Some believe it may have come to Coventry. The POW in question also helped with the restoration of one of the churches in Nuneaton. They were all paid the same rates as the local builders for their work.

Baz, I find that quite brilliant, and to me should never have been moved, but looked after. Amazing.

It must have been at least 10 foot across, and at least 8 foot high. Something like that does not just disappear. I also seen a picture of another piece he did, Karl Weber of Munich used concrete over a metal framework on that piece. Don't know if he used the same process on this. Fantastic art work. Morgana, Baz, I have just spent an enjoyable hour looking through that link, many of the villages are names I knew, and quite a few I have visited as a boy. A wonderful link and I thank you both for sharing with me. A very grateful Kaga.

Hi all Nuneaton and Bedworth council to join West Midlands authority

Hello, This is quite an old topic by the look of it, but I happened to stumble upon this little brick entrance when walking not that long ago. I wasn't really sure what it was, so started to have a look around. I found it by walking in St. Lawrence's Wood, the smaller wood near Hartshill Hayes. I walked along the main path, down to the bottom (to the far side of the wood towards the quarry) where you walk out onto a field but carried on walking to the right, inside the woods. Eventually I came to a tiny stream and started walking back up the hill, keeping to the left. As I was walking up I came to a clearing and this brick structure was a bit further up the hill. I had a good look around; I couldn't really see the bottom as it was full of mud and branches. It all looks like original brick, so unless you went down into the tunnel, I think this may be something else. Whatever it is though, I'm still curious about what it is and how come it's in that place. Anyway, I carried on up the hill and towards the left and ended up stumbling out of the brambles out onto the lower path on the meadow between the two woods. A couple walked past giving me a strange look, don't know what they must have thought. Out of curiosity, in the larger Hartshill Hayes wood I've seen stone in the outline of buildings a bit off the path not far from the visitors centre. Has anyone else seen this? Do you know what they may have been? Cheers

Hi all Plans to build up to 180 homes on land off Astley Lane, in Bedworth, have been given the green light. Hearing the discussions on wireless, the issues being raised are not just from the NIMBY folk. Some of the fields where the houses are to be built were on Sunday under water. All the issues of building on flood-plains high on UK minds at present & a dipstick council here want to add to the problem. It's not just the houses that are built on the flood plain that are liable to flooding, it adds to the run-off which puts everyone else's homes at risk.
