Hi Annewiggy, that house still stands in Allesley village on the truncated road that leads to Allesley Park over the Allesley by-pass. The Stone House is on the right of this image. The cottages Oldhippy means were actually on Allesley Old Road, just next to the lodge of Allesley Hall Drive.

Your uncle's memory served him exceptionally well. The Cluleys presumably bought the property in 1936. My grandfather, who was a friend of the Cluleys, took my mother from this year onwards to tea. She remembers the house well. Thumbs up

Does anyone remember the Jardines of Flynt Ave, 1951 - lol still here, my mum Peggy who is now sadly in a home, both my dad Charlie, and also this year my brother Pete passed away. Love the old stories about the village, great forum, Chris Jardine. Cheers

Hi, this was Allesley Infant School, we only attended this school for a couple of years then went to the Junior School. It was a lovely school quite small, I do remember a metal climbing frame in the playground. It later merged with the main school in Antrim Close. I grew up in Allesley and went to both the Infant and then the Junior School, parents still live in Allesley xx

Hi, my great uncle, Harry Kettle, lived in Allesley prior to fighting in the Great War. He was a gardener for Archdeacon Bree at Allesley Church and was also heavily involved in the bellringing group there. I have, mainly thanks to Amanda Slater who lives locally, found a lot of information about Harry but feel sure that there is more to be found. If anyone can give me any clues/advice etc I will follow them up even though they may duplicate info I already have. Fingers crossed!!

Several references to Harry (George Henry) Kettle can be found with Google. There are a couple of photos at ancestry.com.

I was born in Pershore, Worcestershire but we moved to a fairly new bungalow in Wingrave Close, Allesley village in 1965, when I was five. I missed a few weeks of school because my parents didn't want me to have to change schools after just a few weeks at the one in Pershore. The Allesley school was pretty much brand new then and the headmaster, Mr Startin wanted to keep it nice. There was no vandalism or graffiti and ladies were not allowed to wear stiletto heels in the school buildings. Someone mentioned playing in the derelict buildings between the village and the A45. I don't recall the exact location of them now but I also remember playing in those buildings. I also got my first 2 wheel bike when we lived there and one of the neighbours helped to teach me to ride it. My mum was not much help as she had never ridden a bike herself. The estate was quite hilly and I had a few hairy moments with that bike before I gained proper control of the brakes!
