My parents used to rent a cottage called Park Cottage along Allesley Old Road, cottages backed onto what is now the golf course in Allesley Park, near to Allesley Hall Drive. It was demolished in the seventies for the widening of the Allesley Old Road near to the roundabout for Coundon Wedge, my uncle's brother still lives in the Lodge House, Allesley Hall Drive, which was next to the cottage. I did have a copy of an old Telegraph supplement with a photo of the old Park Cottages but it was lost years ago, I have searched net for a copy of this paper but I can't find one. My first school was St Christopher's. Can anybody help please? Also my dad believed this cottage was haunted. |

Not sure if you mean here. Right photo shows Allesley Hall far right, the left photo is a close up of it circled

I remember that building. It was right next door to Lodge House, which is at the start of Allesley Hall Drive. Ahh, just re-read you comment and that's exactly what you said!
I remember the cottages were just at the part of Allesley Old Road where the dual carriageway widens to include some large old oak trees, just as it approaches the 'Coundon Wedge' roundabout. |

Hi all
The demise of Channel 4s "Time Team" is sad as there were plans to look at doing a dig in the vicinity of Allesley Hall. |

Been thinking about the cottages. Are you sure they were that far down near the roundabout? Going out of town along Allesley Old Road, past Allesley Hall Drive down to where the road splits with the wood in between, I think there were some cottages on the left, where there was a no.10 bus stop.
The cottages would be at the bottom of the hill where we used to go sledging in the winter. Opposite would be some older houses and then a few newer houses and then more older ones.
The wood used to go as far as Holyhead Road before the road was put through, that must have been sometime in the early sixties.
As for pictures, can't help there, although I do have a couple of me standing in the wood and my brother on his bike on Allesley Old Road. |

Here is a view from Allesley Old Road, you can see some cottages park side. Note the two rows of trees going towards the hall which is out of view.

I had misplaced this family photograph showing the Allesley bellringers on the steps of the Rainbow for their annual Christmas visit. I don't know the year but I should imagine it is around the 1950s. For some reason I find it very appealing.

Thanks for your reply, our garden was along the side and went right up to the lodge house, on Allesley Hall Drive, the cottage itself was near to the big hill on the park, we used to sledge there ourselves, they are on deanocity's photos |

Hi Oldhippy, I have looked through some supplements I have kept and this is the only picture I can find of a cottage in Allesley. Is it the one you are looking for ?
