Just found this post by "Innis Road" on the forum about the Alvis.

It was very long way from any arches though.

I know that between the wars there was a Coventry factory called White & Poppy's. Although I have trolled the 'net I can find no reference to it...Les

Hi White and Poppe were on the corner of Drake Street and Lockhurst Lane. They later had new factories built which became part of the Dunlop site. I still think it could be the Spon End arches. If you Google map it and look at the arches which are close to the Chain gardens and at the back of Alvis Park the top is different to the ones over the road in Spon End. Although on the picture the chimney looks close to the railway arches it could be deceptive. If you look behind the chimney under the canopy of the steam roller there is something square.The mill there (according to British History Online) was converted to steam between 1884 and 1888 and became disused between 1892 and 1896. The railings that show on the top of the viaduct would be a modern addition. Also if you follow the line of the top of the viaduct behind the steam roller it appears to be a little higher on the right hand side. I can't find any pictures yet that show that bit of the arches.

Hi Norm. Hope you and all the Forumites are well. I came across the name White and Poppy on a Weddington site that certainly names that firm as a munitions factory in Coventry between the wars. Les
