Hi Neil, Grosvenor Road didn't go anywhere near that high in numbers in 1940.
Also there is no record of a 'Wright' in Grosvenor Road on the 1939 register.
Searches are possible by name or address but neither result in a hit.
There is a H WRIGHTIN on the 1953 directory though, see image for 1953.
Incidentally the initial fits, H (as in Mrs H).
I've looked in the 1935 dir and no joy there either.

The article was a "Letter to the editor" and she has put Bradford and soldier's wife, so perhaps she was not there very long! |

Hi all, regarding "Allington" I think there was a block of apartments/flats on the corner of Grosvenor and Westminster Road.
I can't remember the year but I'll look it up later if you wish. |

May Day at school, circa 1952.
Open for sugestion here, we think to do with the Coronation for the next two. It will be interesting if anyone can spot themselves.
Same people but a few less.

Are they all Earlsdon Primary, scrutiny? My mum was 10 in 1952 and lived just behind in Newcombe Road but went to All Souls as Catholics. |

Hi Neil.
The May Day one is primary school def but the other two, not quite sure where they were taken. They are thought to be to do with the Coronation, end of some sort of collective party maybe. Not enough in the background to go on to place them. The area looks to be down from road level as in one of the pics you can see handrails coming down through the trees also like a corner shop frontage. The person who gave me the pics is also from Newcombe Rd and would have been 10 in 1952. |

I think the greengrocers was Blue Chain Stores. They were next to Boots. I remember Fare Value, one of the first self service grocers (supermarket to today's generation!). Sainsburys opened up in the city centre fairly soon after. Faines (?) was a stationer nearly opposite Blue Chain.
