My name is Richard Tucker and I've been away from Coventry for twenty plus years and live in New Zealand. We have just had Anzac day in NZ which started me reminiscing and searching the internet and I have just found this website and I'm so happy I have. Geoffrey Edward Tucker was my father, who sadly passed away on the eve of his 80th birthday in Kings Lynn hospital, he was born April 1918. I have photo's of two of the shops, the first I'm not sure where abouts it was, but some where in Holbrooks, it was so long ago and Coventry has changed so much map wise, but my mother Lena Olive Tucker managed it and then there was Far Gosford Street which had a manager a Mr Beardmoor. Lastly there was Fleet Street which my father managed, the Coventry City Council compulsorily purchased it (then claimed for the war damage) to make way for the shopping centre, where my father got the shop in Smithford Way. It was opposite the Locarno ballroom entrance. If any one has photo's of the Fleet Street and/or Smithford Way shops I'd be very thankful. I will be posting my photos on line when I work out how to, lol. I would love to hear any stories about the shops or from anyone who worked for my father. I found out some years ago my father was married before and that my sister (Edwina) and I have a half sister somewhere! I tried getting information from my father and later my mother but to no avail and research has been fruitless! Does any one out there know anything please? Many thanks Richard Tucker (New Zealand)
Richard T.

Hi, Richard, According to Ancestry, a Geoffrey Edward Tucker married Marjorie Atherton in Coventry 3Q 1936. There is a birth registered in 3Q 1940 of an Elaine M. Tucker, mother's surname Atherton. No way of determining if this is the right Geoffrey etc. without ordering the certificates. Hope this helps!

That's fantastic, I know when I left Coventry, there was only my father and I in the 'phone book. I will be following this up as soon as I can. Thank you Richard T. PS. Can any one elaborate on Marjorie Atherton and her daughter Elaine M. Tucker of Coventry please?

Hello Richard Here is some information you may not know: Coventry City Football Club changed their colours from blue & white to red & green in the summer of 1922. This was at the suggestion of supporters who felt the club's kit should reflect the civic colours of the city of Coventry, these being red and green. The first home match (1922/1923 season) was played against Notts. County F.C. on 26 August. A special programme was issued for the inaugural match in the new colours. On the front cover an advertisement featured Edward Tucker's draper's business, mentioning shops at 17-18 Fleet Street, 75-76 Far Gosford Street and 89 King William Street. Edward Tucker was a vice-president of the Coventry City Supporters Club. This fan-based organisation was producing the match programme for CCFC at this particular time. I cannot send you an image of the programme front cover. However, I can send you photocopies of the front cover and related text from my book: One Man's Vision - History of the Coventry City Supporters Club 1920-2007. Please email your address to; vocalists1883@gmail.com Best wishes Lionel Bird CCFC HISTORIAN.

To the lovely readers of this Coventry forum. I joined this website, as I am interested in the old Coventry, as an ex-Coventrian. I have also been searching for a half sister! Then I was befriended by a Lionel Bird who is the CCFC HISTORIAN. Lionel has research my family tree for me and for that, my family and I very grateful, as living in New Zealand makes it quite hard! So on behalf of the Tucker clan - Many Many THANKS Lionel.
