Apparently Edyth "Swan neck" was Godiva and Leofric's granddaughter. She was the lover of, or according to other sources, married to Harold Godwinsson who was king of England during the battle of Hastings. What I want to know is, did she have any other connections with Coventry apart from her grandparents? Where was she born? If it was in Coventry, could we claim to have had a Queen of England?

From one of our first postings. This topic has never had any comments made, so I will give it a go. Wink Queen Isobella, Daughter of Philip IV of France, is the only Royal to have connections with Coventry, as far as I know. Married King Edward II, she is said to have owned Cheylesmore Manor. She was made Queen by Edward, but also took the title when he was removed from power by herself and her lover, Roger Moretimer. Their reign did not last long as when Edward's son came of age " King Edward III", he had his mother Isobella removed from the Realm and public life, and had Moretimer put to death of the killing of his father, Edward II. As for Edyth, granddaughter of Godiva, and Leofric, any takers ??? Blush
Always looking forward to looking at the past.

Just found a little more info on this thread. Roger Moretimer's body is said to be interred at Greyfriars in Coventry. Although no records are available to prove it. Isabella's body was buried at Hertford on 23 August 1358. Thumbs up
Always looking forward to looking at the past.
