This is a photo of the garage owner and friend that lived a few hundred yards from us, the garage is still there only under a different name
Bob with his specially built lightweight E Type Jaguar. The car was built for the 1963 Le Mans 24 hour race. Top speed 190 mph.
He was still racing in 1966, the year of the photo, at the age of 52.

I thought this article would be of interest. Dave ran a Jaguar service shop while I was living in Queensland and the article would have been about 2000 (from memory) before he sold up and retired. Norman Dewis had signed the racing number as mentioned in the article. I was in the same class at King Henry VIII as Normans' son and visited the Dewis farm mainly as a support for the band rehearsals we held there. My grandfather worked very closely with Norman Dewis at the Jaguar factory for many years particularly in the development years of the XJ series and the E-type. Great times!

What a coincidence. I watched a programme called The World's Most Expensive Cars last week. They featured a Le Mans 24hour winning D type WWS 301, which sold at auction in America for $19,800,000 making it the most expensive British car sold at auction in America. |

Interesting reading! I have a book about David Murray and the Ecurie Ecosse team - link - which has a couple of the cars on the front cover. Inside the back cover is a D-type MWS301 at Le Mans which seems pretty close to the WWS 301 car sold in America - could this be the same car (mistaken identity)? The transporter also appears in the book.
There is also a section showing MWS 303 with front left damage being driven by Ron Flockhart in 1957 practice for the Nurburgring 1000km. It has the No 9 on at this time.
I really must read the book properly, although this may have to wait for autumn evenings! |

I think that it was a Jaguar driven by Stirling Moss or perhaps Mike Hailwood that caused that horrendous crash at Le Mans back in the 50s. A lot of spectators died and perhaps drivers. Long time ago but I remember the incident although forgotten the details. |

It was the 1955 Le Mans and Mike Hawthorn was the Jaguar driver. There has always been some controversy about how the collision happened as can be seen from the various reports. One thing is certain, safety of both drivers and spectators was almost non-existent in this era of the sport. I've included some links fyi:

I checked the DVLA site just now and this car was first registered March 1956.
