Does anyone have any photos of the Albany Motorcycle Spares shops in Coventry? There was the original one in Albany Road, one in Warwick Road and a later one in Binley Road. There was yet another one in Rugby. I believe all but the Binley Road shop closed in the late 60s early 70s with the Binley Road shop going on to sell motorcycles as well as spares. I believe this one went on into the late 70s perhaps even later.

The Albany Motorcycle Spares shop in Warwick Road was certainly still open in 1977 as I bought a lot of spares from there to rebuild my Triumph Bonneville. Bikes were also sold from the Warwick Road shop in the early 70's.

I think the bikes sold at Warwick Road were used ones. The main, bigger shop/showroom was on Binley Road. They sold many new bikes, especially Commandos. My biker mates and I used to portmanteauise the bigger shop into "Albinleys" so that we knew what we were talking about. Wink

Albinleys later became an organ/music shop. Don't know if it's still there.

Hi everyone, I have purchased a Triumph Hurricane motorcycle which was dispatched to Albany Motorcycle Spares from the Triumph factory. From the limited history I have, it looks as though it was in the shop for a while. Does anyone remember it being there and know any history of it? Thanks in advance. Rich

There were, to my knowledge, two Albany M/c branches in Coventry and I remember seeing this bike in both at various times, unless there were two bikes. As a keen biker then, and now, I was struck by its styling and bright colour. I think this would have been about 1972. Thumbs up

Articles in November 1972 and January 1973 say that 1200 models were produced but it was an export model and only a limited number were to be sold in this country, selling at £895. It started life as a BSA model but changed its name midstream to Triumph. There is a poor picture of the journalist on the bike and I think the number is KHP847L. There is a scale model of a Triumph Hurricane on Amazon with that number plate on.

Interesting. Yes it was delivered to Albany on 18th December 1972. This was the only one delivered to Albany Motorcycles out of the 34 Hurricanes that stayed in the UK. All the other bikes out of the 1171 that were produced were exported to various places around the world, mostly to the USA. It will have been my bike (probably)! Rich

I have wanted one for a while, didn't think I would get one. Always thought they were special motorcycles. Yes, I have seen the scale model, some of them cost a fortune!

I remember it being in the window of the Binley Road Albany's. It replaced the FX Superglide, which a young me used to stop and stare at with a mixture of admiration and horror. I remember it being there for a relatively short time (the Harley was there for ages), which fits in with the story.
