Does anyone remember this factory in Awson Street off Stoney Stanton Road?
Wooden dashboards were made there for BMC, and I used to take them to Oxford and Longbridge in the company lorries.
I was there around 1966/7 and remember the canteen sausage batches with loving memory!

Yes I worked at the Awson. I started as a school leaver which would be 1956. If my memory is right they also made dashboards and door cappings for Humber.

I remember the Awson not because I ever worked there but we could get timber offcuts to use as firewood. I think it was supplied by a man named Marclew or something very similar.
Just old and knackered

A friend of mine (Ken Cadden) worked there around 1951/2. He did some sort of french polishing and hated it. It was a dirty filthy job and his arms were often blistered from all the chemicals used. Sadly he is no longer with us.

It's funny you responding to me about the Awson because I was one of the Avon Street gang that started using your Island Cafe right from the start way back in 63.

The factory was acquired by Burbidge in (I think) the early 1970's and they still make timber products there.
