59 guineas was a lot for a TV at the time, hence the overwhelming popularity of the Bush TV22 at 'only' £36-2s-6d, still a considerable sum of money.
Mods note : for our younger readers, 59 guineas was 59 pounds and 59 shillings, in other words, £61.19s.0d On 14th Oct 2013 5:19pm, Midland Red said:

My aunt bought me a bike for my 15th birthday from Whitefriars St. It was a Hercules Kestrel in polychromatic gold. It had a reversible rear wheel, free wheel on one side and a fixed cog on the other. It was made from Reynolds tubing and at the time it was sold for the princely sum of £14 pounds and 5 shillings. |

Of course Armstrong Siddeley cars were made at Parkside in the City, at the factory previously called Siddeley Deasy and latterly Rolls-Royce. There exists an Armstrong Siddeley Owners Club to this day who regularly display their vehicles at shows and suchlike. A lot of information including a book about the history of the company can be accessed/obtained from the Rolls-Royce Heritage Trust. Incidentally, when the factory was demolished the original Board Room, its furniture, including all its panelling, was salvaged and rebuilt in the RRHT Museum!![]() ![]() |
