Cheers Les,I remember just out the back door of the valve shop was the water tank from the artesian well used to pump water from in event of a fire. The locals used to drop fish in there even got caught again by the nightshift (after measured daywork came in and the quota was achieved!!) The Valve shop was probably the most hazy area after the foundry all the seat grinders started to use oil as a cutting lubricant. Seem to remember a figure around 170,000 a week were sent out all types A B and C series. Bob Hewitt

Great pics again Les, the shot inside the apprentice school certainly refreshed my memory. Can't believe its 50yrs since I used to clock in there. Also the pic of the corner of the apprentice school reminded me of running around there to get to the canteen at 9.30 to get my two slices of toast, for the princely sum of 4d. Hi Les, looking forward to seeing more of your great pic's. It's such a shame more of us didn't think of doing it but I suppose photography was a bit different then, not like now taking 1500 pics on a sd card, you had to actually use something called film. Cheer's Bri (Binkey11)

British furnaces in J block with Steve reminicing, he installed that as part of his apprenticeship J block with British furnaces in the foreground and the hardening shop in the background. J block foreground, Millwrights followed by the washbasin area and further up the gangway was the tool stores and the Bambesburger machine and at the very far end on the right is the gearbox shop. J block centre. In the background is the millwrights shop and washbasin area and me saying "Thats it, I knew there was some truth in the rumours they were going to close it but I hung on until the last minute" J block taken from the gear cutting section across the whole of the shop to the Millwrights section Road between J block and the foundry with the water towers in the background. The highest water tower was 105ft 6in. Halfway down the road on the right there used to be a shed where you could take your bicycle if you had a puncture on your way to work or a broken chain to be repaired to get you home again.
