MR, think you're cheating, anyone see a bus that clean?
Posted on here some time ago, roller skating down Station Street opposite the Wolfe - could not stop, slight turn at the corner and landed on the bus platform with a big clatter. 'Some mothers do have 'em'. |

Yes Dreamtime, the same passengers most worktimes.
Sat upstairs at the back alone from Bell Green - it had been a nice day so I opened most of the windows. The bus stopped outside the Morris just as the work gates opened, it was like taking a cork out a bottle, a flood of people let loose - they clambered upstairs, windows closed with a bang, lighters out. By the time we reached Red House you could not see the front of the bus for thick smoke. I got off and walked.
I boarded the bus in Broadgate, upstairs back seat - at Courtaulds they had just come out of work. Girls giggling and laughing, they swarmed upstairs - one sat next to me, her mate on her lap, her back to me, girlish banter. Then the girl on the lap turned her head, said, "Not squashing you am I luv?"
"No, but why her?" I said cheekily.
She hitched over onto my lap touched my cheek - "Ah diddums" she said. Howls of laughter, then she hitched back. We had seen each other on bus journeys many times.
A girl said "Don't Maisie, you'll embarrass him". She turned, said seriously, "Sorry about that".
"You could make it a habit", I replied - more screeches and laughter.
On the Saturday night I had hardly got in the doors of the Arden when she came over and asked me to dance.
I boarded the bus in Bedworth - two stops later two teenage girls came and sat in front of me. A wasp was climbing up the window, then it flew around them, causing some alarm. I could see they were about to move - I stood up, slid the small window back, leaned between them, snatched the wasp from the air and threw it out of the window. They stared goggle-eyed - then smiles. "Hey I'm one big hero!"
Well that broke the ice, big-time - great friendship all round. Funny how one tiny wasp could remove barriers. |

The Facebook page of the Leamington History Group has a lovely photograph of KHP268 which was an ex-Coventry Transport Daimler single decker. It was taken in Leamington in 1961 and shows the bus in the livery of 'Georges'. Would this be the company that operated from Oban Rd, Longford? The photograph is the copyright of renowned railway photographer Richard Blenkinsop and will be of interest to railway enthusiasts as well. |

I'm sure George's was a Leamington company. I seem to remember that Dr Kolisch (King Henry VIII Grammar School) used them for transporting a party of schoolboys and parents from Coventry to Southend Airport, for a flight to Ostend on our way to Austria for a summer holiday in the early 1960s. |

KHP268 doesn't stand out as a Coventry Transport (Corporation) bus registration number - no trace in any fleet lists I can find
I have found reference of it as a 33 seater, built in 1951, registered to Coventry & Warwickshire Hospital
Would be keen to view the image if possible |

MR - I have sent you a private message, I am a bit careful around copyright issues.
The bus was identified as a 'Coventry City' vehicle which I wrongly assumed to be Coventry Transport.
Regards.

The website Bus Lists On The Web confirms that it was originally owned by Coventry and Warwickshire Hospital.
The link for Facebook members is here.
Georges Coaches was the trading name of George Hayward, who started the business in Broad Street before the move to Longford, Mike de Courcey started with Georges Coaches before setting up his own business, initially in Westcotes, Tile Hill. |

Just a reminder that a new version of the discontinued 360 bus route has just started. It is a slightly different route from the old one and combines the 60, 61 and 43 services. Hopefully it will be better used than the last one which was often regularly empty or with only one passenger on some parts! |
