Hope I haven't posted something dreadfully boring and off-topic but I think this is a Maintenance Check for buses? Are the Bus numbers on there?

Hi Foxcote,
In answer to your question above, the Bus Numbers are on the Maintenance Check Board ! On looking at the photo carefully and seeing what Buses are still marked up on the Board (with their Check Discs !) and also where the gaps are on it (due to the Buses that had been withdrawn from service at the time !), i can roughly date the photo to about early 1952 ??? (February at a guess ???).
Each row has 40 Bus Numbers on it (except the one nearest the Camera that is !!!lol) and you can see the Check Discs displayed on the Board for Buses Numbered from: 1 (the Daimler CVA6's) up to 145, with the latter being & including the first 20, of 40 ordered Daimler CVD6's (from the 126-165 batch, registered: KVC 126 - 165 !) and they were mostly licenced in January 1952, with the exception of Buses 143-145, which were licenced the following month, in February !!!
I noticed that Daimler COG5's Numbered 250 (EVC 250) and 254 (EVC 254), which were both new in 1940, are still marked up on the Board and they were withdrawn sometime during February 1952 ! Pre-War Daimler COA6 No.161 (BWK 161), which had a new "ROE" Body fitted on its Chassis in May 1949, is also still on the Board as Bus number 161 and which on March 3rd,1952, was renumbered: 461 !!!
At the top right corner of the photo, you will see a lack of Check Discs by Buses Numbered: 242, 243 & 244 (EVC 242/3/4) and these were single deck Daimler COG5's, all of which were withdrawn in 1949 (242 in September & 243 & 244 in August !). Just as a matter of interest to everyone, Bus No.244 is now in Preservation today and can often be seen during the Rally season, attending Vintage Vehicle Shows !!!

Many thanks for your nice comments Philip & Foxcote and thanks also to "Midland Red" for adding the link to the photo of bus No.244!!! (it's much appreciated!!!). The picture of Bus No.163 (KVC 163) that you've now put on here "Foxcote" is superb, although that Bus unfortunately didn't look as good as that at one point back in November 1961!!! It crashed one morning through the front of a house in Allesley Old Road, Spon End (by the bottom of Hearsall Lane). The owner of the house had fortunately gotten out of bed half an hour before the bus came through the front of his ground floor bedroom and so luckily for him, he escaped uninjured!!! The driver of the bus also escaped any injury, but "8" of his passengers on the crowded bus were taken to hospital with minor injuries!!! The house was later demolished, but the bus suprisingly was repaired and went on to give another 10 years service, finally being withdrawn in 1971!!! If anyone wants to see pictures of the accident, I wrote an article about it in the Coventry Telegraph's "YOUR SPACE" section back in September 2009 (the 21st) and with the enclosed photos, it covered nearly 2 pages! The History Centre in town should still have a copy of it, if anyone wants to see it???

Thanks for the history of 163! What a tale, I should like to read your article CK and see the photos, could it go on here? That's the trouble with me, I like old photo's of all sorts of subjects but I don't often know the value of what I find.
I guess I should just put all my finds on here for you all to sift through.

I remember all the bus stops in Broadgate but can't imagine how they manage now with it
being all paved. I have no sense of direction so it wouldn't take me long to get lost. I think
you could just about get the bus to anywhere from Broadgate in the 70's (we were there then)
Do you think it is better now than it was then ? |

I've found another two buses, I reckon KVC 154 was 1952 and EKV 961 was 1945 but I don't know for sure because I am only learning. I hope their history is as exciting as the last tale.

Thanks again 20A! Another good story to tell, coincidence on my part for sure, I just like putting the shots on for the experts to supply the details
I did find another shot, a blurry side of a bus which could be 229?

Hey, I'm not very good at looking at those 'Fleet Lists' but I reckon it says it was 're-bodied' in 1942? |
