No, it's a public call box from the days before the GPO offered a public service. Some were located inside buildings such as pubs. The 'National Telephone Company' which ran them had an office in Smithford Street.
A bit like this one preserved at Crich Thumbs up

Hi Foxcote. Just to the left of the adverts is a fish and chip shop once owned by (and actively run by) George Curtis, captain of the Sky Blues and joint manager in 1987 when we won the FA Cup.

This bus is a Manchester Crossley, I've got a photo somewhere with the registration No. but can't find it. It was taken in the front yard of Harnall Lane garage. I remember having a ride on it during the war.

Hi all Wave Have any of you tried to ring the Pool Meadow bus station of late? If so, please tell me the phone number. Pam & I have just had a phone enquiry from a neighbour asking how can they contact the Pool Meadow. We have been able to sort our neighbour out with their enquiry, by looking on our internet. There is a B'ham office number but that is Monday to Friday only. Sad In Coventry, there are two offices open today (Sat) one for info & one to sell tickets. The online info is wrong too, as it states that Coventry offices do not issue tickets. So our transport people need to link up with their own system info as well as making sure that bus stops complete with timetables are not located in streets where there are NO buses. I have informed them of these issues from time to time as I know others have, but they are unable to connect themselves up. This also highlights the problems of particularly our aged community, where over a third of whom have no inter-net access or internet ability to find out info. We sometimes talk about a divided society based on class or money, but we are now adding a class of those with or without internet. Sad ps. A link to a photo that I recorded. The stop was still there when I last walked by. Silly Bus Stop

And it comes to your road too! I think we need a pair of reserved seats on this service! Big grin

The only thing is M.R, we might need to book a sleeper in order to travel all round.

What a brilliant map Philip, I don't think you could go far wrong with that. I well remember the No. 14 Inner Circle bus back in the 60's. I used to think the Coventry bus service was very good back then. Happy travelling Wave

The Inner Circle was a very useful bus. It used to go from the end of our road. My Dad used to be able to get to Highfield Road on it. I used it to get part way to Livingstone Road to go swimming. My friend and I always used to do a trip on the Outer Circle that was put on a few times in the summer in the 60's

The original outer circle tour originated in April 1949, operating on Sunday afternoons only. I have a copy of the tour guide that was handed to each passenger but had to be given back at the end of the tour. The distance covered was 31 miles using the newly delivered Daimler single decker buses.
