Thanks CKV 1D, you have just sent me back over 50 years when I lived in Coundon. Big grin Thumbs up

That is an interesting picture, CKV 1D. I sometimes used to catch the number 5 to school at Coundon Court. The one coming from the side road is interesting. As far as I can remember there was no bus routes on any of those side roads but there was a special works bus that used to go past our house in Poole Road every morning when I was young, I think it was something to do with The Jag Daimler. Would that be the one?

Hi all Wave By the date (1960) of the photo, the older pre-FHP or 1947 buses were confined to service extras, stand ins & workers specials, as well as evening services. A characteristic of all Coventry double deck buses supplied after 1947, was the bench seat at the front. The only exception was No 99. Most pre-war buses did not have the front bench seat. The bench seat only gave 1 extra seating space, but the space beneath it housed the batteries amongst other things. Thank you for that lovely photo. Cheers PS The Guy in the picture, by where the inspector is standing, may have been on a driver reverse training roster. That was a very rigidly enforced routine. Cheers

It looks to me that the left hand bus is backing into either Elmwood or Astwood Avenue to turn round. The person standing next to the driver's cab, probably the conductor, seems to have his hand out and to be waving the driver back.

Yes, Not Local. I have just looked on Google maps and it must be Elmwood Avenue which is a cul-de-sac so he must be turning round, so not the works bus, but it was nice to bring back memories of the 1960's buses. It reminded me of the day when my brother was 21. His scout friends climbed on our roof and painted 21 on the chimney and hung bunting across the street but when the works bus came along they had to take it down! At that time about the only vehicle that came down our road was this bus. If we were playing in the street in the afternoon our games involved rules when we had to get out of the middle of the road with our skipping rope or whatever game we were playing to stop when the bus came down about 5 o clock.

The old Guy Arab Bus (in the background on the left on my photo!), is actually on "DRIVER TRAINING" duty Anne and is being reversed into Elmwood Avenue! My photo here now shows the bus parked up on the wrong side of the road in Barkers Butts Lane, ready to be reversed into Elmwood Avenue itself! If you look carefully, you'll be able to see the big "L" plate sign placed in its front window that overlooks the bonnet!!!!

Thanks CKV. What date would those buses be ? My dad went on the buses for a few years after the war as he wanted to get out of the factory. First as a conducter and then as a driver. I can remember him telling me he had to go on a skid track and nearly tip the bus over,

The Daimler Bus coming up Barkers Butts Lane on the 5 route, was new in 1950 and withdrawn from service in 1966. The old Guy Arab Bus that reversed into Elmwood Avenue, while on Driver Training Duty, was new in 1943 and withdrawn from service in 1961 ! Regarding the Skid Pan (Track) though Anne, I've no idea exactly where that was, as I didn't even know that "COVENTRY TRANSPORT" had one ?

How did my photo of this Coventry bus (here above!) end up being posted on here, as I only posted it on Facebook (for the first time ever!) just a few hours ago? I always thought that the rules on this forum (as far as the posting of photo's is concerned!) is that you "TICK A BOX", so as to "VERIFY" that "YOU EITHER OWN, OR HAVE PERMISSION TO DISPLAY ANY IMAGE YOU UPLOAD"? I've got plenty more old Coventry photo's ready to post (both here on this superb forum and on Facebook too!), but the pinching of photo's like this, just puts me off wanting to post any more of my photo's anywhere really!!!

Sorry CKV 1D - did not know this was yours and not to be shared so I have removed your image. Many forum members on here are not on FB hence why added here.

I'm certainly not on 'Facebook', Facelift or 'Faceache' so any Photos added to the Forum are appreciated greatly. In order for Neil to prevent a re-occurence, could you post your valued images on FB and HCF at the same time CKV 1D ? Many thanks to both anyway Thumbs up

Thank you for your reply Neil, as it's very much appreciated and what you did is honestly not a problem really, it was just a shock to see it on here, that's all! I fully understand what you mean, regarding not all members on this forum being on Facebook and so it's understandable that you yourself would want to share my photo with everybody on here! (I guess I should look at it as being a compliment in a way? lol). I would have got 'round to posting it on here myself anyway, as I'd already just posted it on two Coventry related Facebook sites, but as forum member "WEARETHEMODS" has suggested (and a good idea it is too!), if ever I post any of my transport related photo's onto Facebook, I will straight away then post the same photo's on here as well, so that nobody misses out on seeing them then! Anyway Neil, I appreciate and respect you for your reply and so please don't worry about anything, as it's all water under the bridge now and honestly not a problem at all!!! This forum is a brilliantly run site, with the most fantastic and very knowledgeable members on it and if people are happy to see any of my photo's, then I promise you that I'll keep on posting them on here!!! To save any embarrassment on this now (lol) and to knock it on the head, please feel free Neil to delete my comment above on the matter and either edit or delete this message of mine here now as well, as we can just forget everything then and I'll just re-post the photo myself underneath, in a new post!!!
