The pictures are not to good as I purloined them off the screen. I know that Janet does not mind although I have the originals somewhere. The first pic is circa 1955, Mr Thomas the headmaster on the far left and Mr French on the far right my big sister in the middle.
The 2nd pic is circa 1959. Miss Webster's class who is standing on the far right. Me, in the middle at the back.
The last pic is how the school is today, showing the main entrance, it is now listed. The old concrete stairway and castiron pillar still stands in the main entrance.

I had a conducted tour around the school last year but because of a virus in my computer I seem to have lost a lot of pics. Still looking. Can anybody recognise themselves? Wave

My wife left about 1953 and Mr. Thomas and Mr. French were there then. Also Miss Baker was an excellent teacher and, the year she left, a very large percentage passed the 11+. She has very many happy memories of her time there and is currently trying to find a picture she has of the class choir.

I was very nearly mugged in All Saints Lane by a couple of kids from South Street School when I was walking home from St Mary's (circa 1963). Oh my They were scared off at the last minute by an old lady walking her dog. I tended to avoid the area after that. Roll eyes

I remember playing football for Ravensdale Junior School against Southfields School in 1966. We beat them 13-0!! Also when I left Ravensdale in 1967 the Headmaster was a Mr French. I've an idea he may have been the one in the photos of Southfields School. His sister, (Miss French) was the School Secretary at King Henry VIII when I started there in September 1967.

I was at South Street School from 1955 to 1959 when my family moved from Paynes Lane and I was moved for 1 year to Briton Road Junior School. My father went to South Street School in the early 1930's. I will try to find some photos.

Beesman, Mr French is front row centre in this photo from Ravensdale. I was there 70-74, I guess the photo is early 70s. Thumbs up

Good man Ghengis Cheers The only other one I recognise for certain is the other guy on the front row, name of Barnard, a particularly unpleasant individual.

In 1966, I was living in Godiva Street and attended Southfields School until about 1968, when we moved house, as the street was being demolished around us! As an eight year old I recall being caned by the headmaster, Mr Thomas, a bald fellow who I believe was from Wales. This was my punishment for running to the changing room after a school swimming session at the Coventry Baths! My first teacher at the school was a short grey haired fellow by the name of Mr Ackland, who I believe, judging by his accent, was also Welsh. My second and last teacher at the school was a very attractive lady by the name of Mrs Wills.

Courtesy of 'Pictures of Coventry', it appears to be 'Little South Street' but I don't know where that is.

Little South Street is actually the access road to Southfields Primary School nowadays. South Street links East Street and Oxford Street but for pedestrians only (it is blocked to road traffic) and Little South Street runs off it at right-angles along the front of the old South Street Boys School building.
