I must have passed this building hundreds of times without noticing it, until this morning, when I stopped to take this photograph

A short time ago I posted on the forum to see if I could find a photo of the old Little Heath School, unfortunately no one could help but since I posted I have spent a lot of time reading through the topics and they have brought back a lot of memories of things I had completely forgotten about. I went to Little Heath School and Foxford Comprehensive, did an apprenticeship at Lucas Aerospace in Read Street before moving to the USA, besides the memories that this site has stirred up I am amazed at the knowledge some of the members have of Coventry so on this topic can someone tell me why Trinity Church and St Michaels were built so close together. thanks ajm

This link probably explains it in full
Coventry's churches
but the shortened version is that a lot of the town was owned by the church/priories (originally Catholic) and the churches would have started as much smaller private buildings. As wealthy people/religious big wigs decided to show off, they upsized their preferred church. So the location of the churches is a mixture of what land was owned by the church and an almost random effect of which locations got the cash. Oneupmanship rather than town planning. It goes without saying that if your hovel was in the way, you moved. |

Thanks to all that responded to my question. Morgana thanks for the drawing, I just find it strange that a school was on the same site for about 150 years and there are no photographs of it. Helen F. thanks for the link, I now know why the two churches are so close. ajm
