Have we ever discussed Bill Cleaver and Morris Dancing? It was quite popular in the 1950s.

Not sure where he lived Mick. Mr Ashley was our Music Teacher as Covkidd recalls, and I totally agree with him that we were all trying to stifle our laughter on first meeting him. The wicked humour of kids !

I was at the school from 1971 in Gibson House. I bumped into my old housemaster William (Bill) Newton a few weeks ago and he is about 90 now. He told me that Mr Panter who was an English teacher that taught me had sadly died following a fall at home aged 99. Other names from that time were David Blaney (PE), Peter Cadwallader (PE), Roger Greaves (maths), Mr Cave (History), Harry Hottot (French), Peter Rossborough (French), Mr Morgan (TD), Mr Howard (music), Mr Hanson (Geology), Mr Gulliver (PE), Les Harris (Perrins), Jim Wilkinson (art), Harvey Wyatt (geography). I remember well Don Thompson banging his study window with his ring if anyone started to run. I also remember being house monitor and having to do "bus duty "or "Hawthorne Lane duty". Happy days for some, but not for others if one reads the other posts. As I recall Sue Underwood was the only female member of the teaching staff.

There's a few more names I remember there, although only Mr. Cadwallader (another Welsh Rugby fan who took us for Rugby in the 1st year), Peter Rossborough, Mr. Howard and Jim Wilkinson taught me. I was racking my brain thinking who Mr. Morgan was, he didn't teach me but I remember now he wasn't liked. Harry Tope was my TD teacher in the last 2 years. Sue Underwood wasn't the only female, we had one for French in the first 2 years (can't remember her name), then in the last 2 years another joined (in Smith-Clarke), can't remember her name either but she took home economics.

Technical drawing. A strange subject when we started was Enquiry Studies.You could pick literally any subject you liked and do a project on it.There were 2 lessons which took up the whole morning.

Harvey Whyatt and Jock Tranter started together in 1962 and were both good blokes. Harvey took over running the school football team.

What about his son young Boland? what a nightmare for his dad. If young Boland was missing from a class it was because he was being caned somewhere. His dad was a good bloke and put up with a lot of c**p from dickhead "pupils", but when he snapped, watch out.

Agree with that, Boland Jnr was a right idiot, and yes his dad did snap quite often.
