After 12 years of being the Locarno it became Tiffanys in April 1974. It will always be Friday nights at the Locarno for me. It seems they changed the name as the Locarno had a bad name so they did it up and tried to encourage a better class of customers. Doesn't say much for me, does it! |

Or me, 1967 Friday nights. Butts college for an evening class, on to the 3 Tuns for a couple of pints of Phipps mild and then onto the Locarno for the rest of the night.
It was always a long walk home to Canley

Mick '67 was about my time as well, usually the Market Tavern or the Climax first. 2.00am bus home or walk. Trouble was the bus to Radford only went to Jubilee Crescent. |

Hi Anne. My days down the town didn't begin till about 1970. I don't remember a 2.00 AM bus to Radford, though. |

Perhaps it was just in the 60's there were special buses, I think put on by the Locarno. I don't recall paying for it. It was my way of staying out later as I told my dad if I didn't wait to come home on the bus I would have to walk home. Never told him I still had to walk from Jubilee Crescent! |

Hi all,
Contract bus services (maybe needs to be in the bus topic) were often locally resourced. Sewall Highway had special buses to the Saturday morning cinema, sometimes organised by the local councillors or parish council in the case of Sewall Highway. For two seasons one Saturday night bus went from Sewall Highway to Brandon & return. These contract services were not centrally controlled, that's why some had them & others didn't. |
