Hello Midland Red, so you think it was the Orchid ballroom, that's one I didn't think of! As I live in London & I was 18 then, it's a long time to remember. I've still got family in Coventry, not many left now though. I grew up in Coventry, went to Broad Street School, is it still there? I guess the Orchid ballroom isn't & I am still trying to find out about Saturday morning Joe Loss, I used to go every week. |

The dance hall was called the Majestic when it first opened, it later changed to the Orchid.

I think I only went to The Orchid once and saw Georgie Fame & The Blue Flames before they were well known. It would probably be about 1967. |

Yes, I certainly do. Late 50's to middle 60's, some of the most happiest times of my life.

Mum was still playing bingo at the Rialto until about 6 years ago. I think it is now a furniture showroom.

The Flying Club at Baginton was a decent venue as well, am sure I recall them having all nighters even in the early 60's. |

I went to Keith Jones when I was 16 it was the other side of the side of the Alexandra cinema that was 1950, and from there it was to COURTAULDS DANCE on LOCKHURST LANE, where the lads and girls came from all over Coventry to dance. I also went to the MAJESTIC later ORCHID ROOMS, that was in the late 50s and I do remember the singer.
Courtaulds ballroom (Courtaulds Social Club) Tuesday & Saturday night my haunt 1949 early 1950's can you remember the name of the band that played there Joey Roberts played tenor sax his brother Bunny Roberts was the drummer in the band that played at Rialto Casino Keith Jones Studio became the headquarters of the Godiva Car Club he also had a Lunch Club there I was a member of both it was on the corner of Cox Street |
