Could've gone in a 2-Tone thread but this was taken from the same shoot as my post #67- still some great Goods Yard buildings circa '79/80. The ramp up to Anarchy Bridge from Grosvenor/Westminster Road

Neil, I wonder about the location. The buildings are the right vintage but I don't remember them looking like that on the approach to the bridge, and they'd have been demolished at that date as you can see from the other photo of them in the goods yard.
The building at the top of the picture would be in the line of the bridge, and I don't remember the break in the wall on the right nor that a building butted directly on the left.
Stand to be corrected and can't think of another suitable location. There were photos taken at the canal basin but that wasn't 'my' area in those days.

I did question it myself Vernon - could be wrong however I added the image to this one that came up today on the True Cov FB page and none other than Roddy Byers himself commented about it. I asked him to confirm the location and he says he can recall the day but just that it was at the back of Horizon Studios. You can see some old Yard buildings by Roddy here - I think they were photographed further down though out of shot. Definitely the same day though as they have the same clobber on!

Vernon the more I look at it, based on Roddy's comments, I think it might be behind here - the end building in the centre with the chimney, the Goods Yard Office / Studio itself.

Thanks Neil (and Roddy). Yes, I think that's right. Coincidentally (for me) those are the stables where my grandfather kept his horse. He worked as a carman for the LMS.
Great photo for so many reasons
Thanks again.

The 2 Tone: Lives and Legacies exhibition currently on at The Herbert is fantastic. Highlight for me was seeing the stuff Jerry Dammers has loaned for display, not just his 2 tone things but especially his artwork and a film from his student days at The Lanch - the football hooligan painting is ace! (inspired by his time as a turnstile operator at Highfield Road apparently) At the time of writing this you have to book (it's free entry) with 45 minute slots on offer. If you are into 2 Tone then it's best to book 2 slots (one after the other) as 45 minutes isn't long enough to take it all in.

Shame the 2-Tone trail plaque couldn't have saved The Rocket. Here's Lynval, Horace and Chrissie Hynde from The Pretenders (she sang backing vocals on the first album) having a drink there. No doubt they'd just stepped over the road from Horizon.

I saw some 2 Tone stuff at The Herbert years ago, I think the exibition was about Coventry in general down the ages, but there was some stuff on The Specials, including on the original note paper, handwritten lyrics for Too Much Too Young.

And bringing things right up to date - a little sing song from Lynval Golding and information about The Specials upcoming album He was being live streamed on the fb group "Sitting Rooms of Culture" by Kirsty - one of the Lady Godiva's from the opening event of City of Culture. Really nice bloke, got to interview him about the mural.

ABSOLUTELY STUNNING! Only completed on 25 June so the boarded up window will be fixed. Carrie Reichardt and her team are responsible for this with help from Coventry school kids.

Thanks Rob. Funnily enough there were 2 gents at the mosaic taking pics when I arrived. Had a chat with them and one glanced to the right at the Britannia Hotel and said exactly the same thing. Even if they could just clean up the concrete it would be a start... but demolition would definitely be my choice too
