Jim Brown, the club historian, has written a very comprehensive tribute to Lol Harvey. Here is a link for anyone interested.

Well done Mark Robins and the Sky Blues team, lets hope SISU don't throw it all away by not doing a deal to get us back to the Ricoh. |

The council will not do a deal with SISU
Given that WASPS may well go bust now they will not be getting a lot of the money they were expecting from Sky, we may well be seeing the unstoppable force meeting the immovable object. |

Just found this
Accrington Stanley players, including George Hudson (far left), take a break during a training session in the snow at Peel Park in Accrington in January 1961.

Every other Saturday, if you rode down Stoney Stanton Road, you were surrounded by hundreds of cyclists, until you got to the Red House pub. Here, they all cut across to the Highfield Road football ground. There they all knew some household where they could store their bikes for a few pence till after the game.
The open end near Swan Land was the Bell Green end as so many were from that area - it had no shelter, it was a shale/ash bank, the goal net was only a foot from the small wall, and an ambulance man sat on a small stool in the corner of the ground. The small wall we kids sat on, the men always allowed us to.
It was always the same crowd, men and boys, but at half-time there was a thriving market of 'fag cards' -we would sell/buy or swap, we would take numbers from each other to find, sportsmen being the most popular. Through these cards we knew every sportsman, filmstar, car, flower, bird - it was brilliant. We made friends from all over town, a closer friendship than television.
Bourton, Lake, Wood - we all had our favourites, had all the signatures. If they won there was a chorus of a hundred or more. Bike bells down Stoney Stanton Road, laughter, people can no longer imagine the scenes. We had little money but laughter we had in bundles.
My childhood, I cannot imagine one better. |

One of the best centre forwards I ever saw. I was at that game against Southampton in 1966 when he scored scored one of the best goals I have ever seen. He controlled the ball in front of the centre half, lobbed it over him, ran around him and volleyed it into the goal - absolutely brilliant!!!. He was a very skilful player and when he jumped up to contest a headed ball he always lead with his fist, defenders were very physical back then, some downright dirty. I am grateful to have seen him play. The 60s with Jimmy Hill managing was a magical time for the Sky Blues. Rest in peace, George!!! |

I saw all of George Hudson's home games and a few away games, apart from the Southampton game. One game I will always remember is a midweek game against Preston on a pitch covered in snow and ice. The Sky Blues won 2-0 and George might just have had ice skates on, his balance was something special. Thanks for the memories, George. |
