I cannot believe that a time capsule, being buried near Coventry Railway Station and will not be opened for another 50 years has NO reference to CCFC!! (OR Coventry RFC for that matter) but contains information about Coventry Blaze and Wasps
Telegraph article can be read here
Perhaps the answer is in the article
Residents were asked to suggest small items, no bigger than 15cms, to represent Coventry's past, present and future to 'give a snapshot of how the city looked in 2016'
Did no Sky Blues or Cov followers come up with any suggestions? |

Good point Cliff, although I can't believe that a Council official didn't put their name near the top of the list even before the request was made! |

Something that the Telegraph article fails to mention. They simply say that "... no items from Coventry City or Coventry Rugby..." |

Maurice Fussey wasn't the only referee to have an extrovert style. I remember Roger Kirkpatrick, a short, portly, bald individual whose 'knees-up' sprint always had the crowd in stitches.
The latter was known as Mr Pickwick, referring to his sideburns. He seemed able to run backwards as fast as he could run forwards.
I recall him joining in with play in a testimonial game he was refereeing at Highfield Road.
He later took up bowls, worked his way up to become President of Leicestershire CBA and was for eight years an England selector.

You're right, apparently it was added too late to be included in the press release!

Very sad to read of the death of Ian Gibson, one of the finest midfielders to wear the famous Sky Blue shirt.
I shall never forget his goal for City in the 5-0 demolition of Ipswich Town back in the old Division Two days.
He was an inspired signing by the late Jimmy Hill.
RIP Gibbo. |

Absolutely agree, Beesman. He was one of the true greats of CCFC, probably second only to Tommy Hutchison. Had he managed to avoid injury he would have been at the same level as Hutch in my opinion.
The word 'legend' is rather overused these days, but Gibbo was certainly a Sky Blue Legend. I was privileged to have a brief chat with him at Legends Day a few years ago and he was an interesting and personable chap. Very sad loss. |

The best players from my time have been Tommy Hutchison, Ian Gibson, George Hudson, Ian Wallace and Bill Glazier, who in my opinion was the club's greatest ever goalkeeper. Of those, all but Hudson played for us in the top flight rather than in the lower divisions, and I believe that is very significant. |

People at the club seem to suffer very badly from Selective Memory Disease, or 'Trumpitis'
It was only three years ago, just before Callum Wilson broke into the team, that SISU claimed having the academy was a waste of time and just a huge void they were tipping money into. They were going to just close it.
After they managed to sell Wilson and realised you can actually make money from it they tried their Ricoh tactic again - threatening to move out and arguing the centre was worthless unless the academy was there, and then refusing to pay the bills to try and distress the owners. It's also only a year ago that the AHC had to undertake legal action action the club owners to get them to pay the repairs bill for the equipment they were contractually obliged to pay.
Now they act as if they're the injured party.
Also this week they've stated that using BPA as their new stadium is their preferred option, but when asked about this at the outset of their pie-in-the-sky new stadium 'plans' said it was a complete non-starter and were totally derisory of the size of the site to hold a big enough stadium and the surrounding infrastructure. We're four years on from those plans (three years on from the club being "weeks away from purchasing land" according to Fisher), and next season should have seen the opening of that stadium if their timescale was to be believed.
Being a City fan lately is a real heart wrench - the club is in my blood but I really can't 'support' it at the moment because it would be like condoning the notion that cheaters prosper and 'crime' pays. |

AD, you are quite correct in what you say. The owners have moved the goalposts so many times, (literally as well as metaphorically) that it is impossible to know who or what The club has been monumentally mismanaged for many years but the current owners seem to have no long term plan whatsoever. They are never going to build a new stadium, the BPA is a non-starter for what the club needs, and they are burning bridges with Wasps for the Ricoh. It seems they are far more interested in winning court battles than football matches and win neither.
There are not many on this forum who do actually support the club, although some do take an interest. Of course, only the diehard fans know the pain and disappointment suffered over the decades. Not sure how long-suffering you are, for me it's 53 years. No other club has failed to even manage a top 6 finish in any division since 1970. |
