If Ghengis is still around - stumbled across these great photos of Blitz Krieg Zone playing at The Dog & Trumpet on March 20th 1986.
BKZ - sadly they've been posted on a Facebook page setup for Martin Easterlow - the band's bassist who passed away recently. |

Thanks @ Neil's Yard - I was over in Coventry in April & nipped over to The Assembly in Leamington for a punk all-dayer. The Lurkers, UK Subs, 999, The Vibrators - all the usual suspects. I met up with a load of good mates, & caught up with a few people I'd not spoken to since the late 70s. Apparently, it was a good gig
I will be going over to Blackpool in August for the Rebellion festival at the Winter Gardens - 4 Cov bands are on this year - The Army of Skanks, The Dementias, Criminal Class & Dragster.
Also managed to get 2 tickets to see Kate Bush at the Hammersmith Apollo in August, which I'm sure is going to be a belter of a gig.
It's great to see the amount of live music around Cov at the moment. Lots of venues like the Arches, Kasbah, Whitefriars, Broomfield, Dyers &tc. all seem to be buzzing.
Shame I don't live in the city anymore
Anyway, cheers Don't look around to find the sound that's right beneath your feet

Hi Ghengis Smith. Did you say the Broomfield, how on earth do they manage to hold a concert in there? Unless they have extended it. Glad to know Kate Bush is still in action. |

Hi Dreamtime, I don't think they have extended the Brooomfield, although I'm sure somebody on the site will know. Not a local of mine, although I've seen a few bands in there, & it is a bit like holding a gig in a phonebox - great pub, though. Don't look around to find the sound that's right beneath your feet

Free, supported by our very own Indian Summer (who I later saw again at Foxford School!).
I'm slightly confused about the date however. I could have sworn it was either very late '69 or early '70, as I was still at school, and left in May '70. However, somebody else on here mentions the Who being on much later in '70, and I always thought that they were on before Free(?). I guess they could have been on there again, but I certainly don't remember that being the case.
Anyone able to de-befuddle me? |

I knew I'd seen Free, Yes, Atomic Rooster and Mott The Hoople at the Lanchester Poly, but when I looked it up on line was astounded because it seems they were all on the same bill, appearing on the 30th January 1970! It couldn't have cost much either as I was still a penniless teenager. |

The Who played at the Lanch on November 28th 1970. Free played the weekend before. I remember this particularly because I had to make my mind up which gig to attend! At the tender age of 14 funds were very limited so I invested my hard-earned on a £1 ticket to see the mighty 'Oo! a decision I have never regretted. |

Speaking of golden oldies I just went to a concert at a casino in San Diego. It was a 50th anniversary of the British invasion concert The featured acts were Mike Pender of the Searchers, Denny Lane of the Moody Blues and Wings, Billy J Kramer of the Dakotas,Terry Silvester of Hollies, and last but not least, Chad and Jeremy.
I must say that Mike Pender was the "star" of the show, he still plays guitar pretty good but I am afraid that the voice is shot! But hell if I could get up on stage when I am 73 and still perform I would be very happy.
All the others voices were just as bad, the worst being Billy J, Kramer. It was kind of sad to see these artists who we all grew up with and have fond memories of hanging on by their finger nails!
Let's just say that they probably should have stopped at the 40th anniversary!!! |

Can't remember if it was the first concert I went to, but I do remember going to see Gene Pitney at the Coventry Hippodrome (if it was still called that). I was home on leave from the army. I'd been writing to a girl from Birmingham and we had a date for the concert. I'd been brought up to think that photographs cannot lie. But when she came up to me and introduced herself then I knew the picture I'd been sent must have been, shall we say, taken in a VERY flattering light.
