First gig I ever went to. Cov Theatre 1975. 75p in! Great night. What was the first concert you went to?
Don't look around to find the sound that's right beneath your feet

Not Coventry, I am afraid, I was about 10 years old and went with my older cousin to see the Beatles in London, I was far too young, couldn't understand why they were all screaming (and that was just the Beatles)! The odd lyric wafted in and out over the banshees, standing on their seats and overall, a bit scary! But I'll never forget it. A good post for Christmas and hope the members responding enjoyed their first concert more than I did Cheers A few seconds of footage of the fans waiting to see The Beatles in Coventry

Went to see The Beatles at The Coventry Theatre, with my older sister and her friend. That was back in November 1963, I was 15.

The first concert I went to was The Who at the Lanchester Poly in November 1970. Tickets were £1 each! There were only 900 tickets available as The Who insisted on having a special stage built which reduced the capacity. By all accounts the Poly made a loss on the concert as The Who were paid £1200 for the gig. It is reckoned that there were over 1000 people outside the hall listening to the show. The headline in the Coventry Evening Telegraph on the Monday read 'The why of the loss from The Who' Big grin

I really can't remember which was my first gig. I was a regular at the Lanchester Poly in the early 70s, like Beesman. They had some big names over the years and admission prices were always cheap, as was the beer! There were also plenty of bands at local night clubs in those days, including Mr George and the City Centre Club, plus some decent bands at the Chesford Grange. When you see how few gig venues there are now, you realise how lucky we were. Midland Red, that looked like an impressive line up. A bit of trivia re Eden Kane - he is one of the only three brothers to have UK Top 10 hits, his brothers being Peter and Robin Sarstedt. I love the Billy Fury music too. Although he is no longer with us, his old backing band, the Tornados, still perform with a substitute 'Billy' as The Billy Fury Story. Anyone who is into the music should catch it if they can.

My first gig was Long John Baldry at the Berkeley Grill on Holyhead Rd, he had a young piano player called Elton John, think it was about 1964, after that I was hooked on live gigs, and still am Lol

The first concert I can remember was one my parents took me to in the Hippodrome. It was a classical concert conducted by Sir Thomas Beecham, presumably with the Halle Orchestra. It must have been mid 1950s. Sadly I remember very little about it now, I was too young, although I can see Beecham taking a bow and conducting the orchestra. The most vivid memory I have is of the inside of the Hippodrome with its "moulded" plaster ceiling, all curvy and painted a pink colour. It was the first time I was at the place. I remember the Beatles coming around 1963, not because I was there but because you could hear the screaming going inside from quite a distance away in Broadgate!

My first proper concert was Barclay James Harvest at Salford during freshers week in 1971. Ticket was 25p including two support acts. My first concert in Coventry was either one of the Saturday night ones at the Lanch (Roy Harper or Caravan, can't remember which one though) or Mott the Hoople at the Locarno. Before then it had been mainly folk clubs. Happy Days Big grin

Not Coventry but London - The Hammersmith Palais in 68 to see a Stax, Atlantic line up of Sam & Dave, Arthur Conley, Percy Sledge Joe Tex and Jimmy Ruffin. First in Cov, that would be Jigsaw at Mr. George.

Spot on MisterD-Di - we saw "The Billy Fury Experience" in 1997, with Colin Gold as Billy, backed by "Fury's Tornados", and in 2009 we saw the same set-up again in "Halfway to Paradise - The Billy Fury Story" Colin Gold was immaculate in his portrayal of Billy on each occasion Thumbs up
