Does anyone know if the Owens, of Owen Owen fame, were a local family? |

Is that why, the contractors 'B Tomkinson & Sons', who built it were also from Liverpool?
Probably, they liked to have all work done "in house". Plumbs (based in Coventry) was their own shopfitting division.

I spent just over a year with Plumbs - Plumb Contract Furnishers and Shopfitters Ltd - both in Bishop Street and Liverpool in the 1960s

Not sure if the question has been asked before. If you look to the left of Wetherspoons there was an alleyway up to what I remember was a temporary shop possibly belonging to Owen Owen, I am thinking early Fifties. There was also at some point a pet shop at the beginning of the alley.
Can anybody enlighten me?
Many thanks.
Enjoy life, remember we walk this way but once.

What I do when looking for a certain subject is type in the search box like New Buildings this will bring up all the previous posts where this was mentioned, or you can try Exchange and Mart. Hope this is helpful

Owen Owen occupied the building on the corner of Trinity Street and New Buildings until their new store was built.

I vaguely recall a walkway connecting two departments of Owen Owen. I should imagine it was only temporary but I am thinking it was during the 50's. Would that have been between two buildings? |

Taken from an old newspaper that I have photo'd. Owen Owen in its makeshift building.
Always looking forward to looking at the past.

A lovely picture. Thank you. Owen Owen operated from several temporary shops that side of Trinity St, even had one further down, roughly where Sainsbury's is now. I remember the flywheel on over-head wire cash systems in their shops. The sound of them 'whizzing' along to the cash office, only to 'whiz' back with your receipt & change. Happy days! |

Remember it well. My mother worked there for a while. The shop insisted that she changed her working Christian name from Betsie to Kay as they had another girl with the same name. She never changed it back as she preferred the new version. |
