Slim. The buses were from the Daimler factory at the top of Lydgate Hill. I always thought the drivers looked like pilots!

Thanks, Anne. I guess their route would have taken them down Moseley Avenue, past my old school!

Apart from Prince Philip, who else collected their new vehicle from the Alvis?

If anyone has an obscure question about Alvis, a distant relative of mine is the official Alvis historian and I could make an enquiry of him on their behalf.

The three cars pictured outside the Alvis works in I think 1991 are all from the Coventry Transport Museum collection. BO 2481 (if I've read it correctly) is the oldest surviving Alvis, a 1920 10/30 model. UL 2046 is a 1928 front wheel drive model, and 1 ALV is a 1965 TE21 model that belonged to the Alvis chairman J.J. Parkes.

Super picture NeilsYard. My grandfather lived in Malvern Road, top of Holyhead Road and was a skilled toolmaker at Alvis. I still have his wartime works pass.

As has been discussed before - the original Alvis works in 1934 which were east of the bridge - visible on the right here.

And a slightly later one as they started to expand on to the new site west of the bridge. Can anyone confirm when the original site closed?

Hi Neil, in the archive it says that British Leyland sold it in 1981. A Telegraph article says Alvis moved to Walsgrave in 1990 and to Telford in 1999.
