Isn't that the garage that closed because of ground contamination?

I'm not sure about that Norm, as a boy living in Templar Ave I knew the area well in the 50s and 60s. Dad used to go there to fill up and I seem to recall the old boy telling dad that he was closing as Tile Hill Lane was being widened. I have no idea about the date but it must have been late 1950s.

Hi, here's some info that seems to support the idea. C Hudson was there from at least 1935. Then in 1960 he is no longer on Tile Hill Lane. See the images for the other years. Although he wasn't listed on Tile Hill Lane during 1960, he was still living at number 3 Ash Priors Close.

Thank you MR. The map is pre decimal money, that's all I know about it. Pity they don't put a publish date on their maps. To me it's a glaring error and quite out of character for that type of business.

Our son bought a 1977 book "The Rover Story" in a National Trust Book Shop last week. Lots of pictures, but I thought this view of the Rover Garage interesting. I don't think I have seen it before and most pictures are looking up the hill towards Broadgate. It is a 1920's picture and the car parked outside is a "Clegg-ype" Rover 14hp model. Did the Rover Garage many years later become Parkside Garage where I bought my Austin Healey Sprite from in 1967?

No, sir - Parkside Garage was at the bottom of Warwick Road - between the the railway goods yard and Queens Road Thumbs up In 1967, the Rover Garage site had become Benleys, succeeding AD Foulkes

Hello Mr Blue Sky, Wave The Parkside proprietor was Mr Davis. In my growing up years (fifties and sixties) I saw him many times when walking into town from school. Also a point of contact was that my mum supplied the workwear uniforms & overalls for the business from her shop in White Street. Her last motor was from there too, in 1958, a Wolseley 6/80.

A childhood mate of mine took an apprenticeship in the motorcycle department of Brandish's in the late 1950s. The repair and maintenance workshop was situated on Whitefriars Lane just a few yards along from the Whitefriars Gate.

I used to buy my caps here for my Lone Ranger cap gun, served by an immaculate man in a pristine white cow gown.

Does anyone remember working at Coventry Garage, Holyhead Road, during the 60s and 70s? If so would be pleased to hear from them. I was a mechanic there way back then and wondered if they still lived in Cov. Would like to chat to them.
