As far as I know Dutchman the current work on the house is phase one and they will be re-building the rear 'like for like' and this will be phase 2. I dare say the whole lot will be costing the owner a small fortune and for the present at least the main building is now watertight and made safe. This is the planning application reference number AD/2012/0911, it shows the elevations and ground plans Smile

It's an amendment to a previous planning application which in my opinion was completely unworkable and has since expired. The new plans now include toilets at first and second floor levels which were bizarrely missing from the previous planning application. Oh my

Revisited the site on Friday (had to return this morning to retake one shot!) This shows the view looking across Allesley Old Road to the properties now occupied (by wheeliebins!) Here's a closer view of the front doors to 31 and 33, with the blue plaque still in situ Round the back, footings have been put down since Catshed's August 2012 image For those who haven't seen the previous images, this is the link to my photos since April 2009 Thumbs up

Apologies MR for not keeping up with photo's, Sad I kept meaning to go down the road and take them but yours are nice and sharp, they made a good job of it I think and the wall suits it just right, but yes it's a shame about all the wheelie bins but mustn't grumble as it's another piece of saved Coventry Thumbs up

Having had an interesting tour of the houses with the knowledge of the two guides on Saturday and finding out that one of the houses is haunted, I am wondering if anyone has had the experience of the overnight stays there with the ghost hunters????? Oh my

It seems to have been the fashion at the time for commercial artists to wildly exaggerate the size and scale of manufacturing businesses.

Nice images Annewiggy, has anyone got any photos of the bottom of Mount St as I live 3 doors up from what was Dr Forrest's surgery and Richmond Villa is where Carlton Court 1980's block of flats stand now and for one of the longer streets in this area there does not seem to be many images about.

Does anyone have a contact for Steve Fish, I'd like to contact him about Rotherham & Sons I understand the brand is still going but can not find any detail on the net. If any one knows of anything, be interested to hear anything.

A few years ago he was in the Coventry Telegraph, last time I seen him in Longford was a fair few years ago, where Rotherham's was, then changed its name to Aeromech, so I assumed it had gone into engineering, prior to that it was at Bablake Old Boys Cricket Club. I could ask a man I know related to one of the cricketers he used to play cricket with, but I'm not sure when I will get to see him again. I would imagine he still does own it. Someone on here might know. Rotherhams has moved to Nuneaton - LINK

My grandparents family lived for most of their lives in Chapelfields; this was most suited to my grandfather's trade, given in the 1901 census as - Enamel watch dial painter. The family lived on Mount Street, off the Allesley Old Road. Unfortunately I don't have a picture of Mount Street, but the following will have to do - This a general view up Lord Street, the Top-Shops are clearly visible through the trees. Craven Street, taken from the junction with the Allesley Old Road. A good view of the top-shops again. House on the corner of Lord Street. My grandfather's silver watch, dial and scene painted by him. This photo was taken prior to my father giving it to the Museum. To quote my father's "Journey through Life" he said of his father James, "My father was one of the best and quickest watch dial painters in the country, for painting the hour figures, the minutes and the seconds, all he received was 2.1/2d, how many he had to do in a week to get anything like a living, God only knows! Waltham's of London used to send their £100 gold watches through the post to my father, for him to paint their name on the dial! They used to pay both ways, registered post." When I knew my grandfather in the early 1940's he was wasted with Parkinson's disease, I was looked after by my grandmother and aunts after mother died in 1939, weeks before the WWII. I shared a space under the stairs during one air-raid because he was too ill to shuffle to the street shelters in Oldfield Road. Has anyone a photo of the street shelters? There should be one somewhere in the Library picture section, but I was unable to locate one.
