Hi, The premises at Spon End were Aston's certainly around 1952-3, we lived in the ground floor flat for a while, and a street party was held on the forecourt to celebrate the Coronation. I have some pictures of this and of some of the other showrooms somewhere. I will have a search and if found will post on here. There is also some information on the Garages of Yore topic on this Forum.
I was involved with the family from the early 50s and worked for Bill from 1960 to 1971 approx and have many fond memories of the family and the various sites around the City.
The site at Marton is now a a wood yard on the one side and still an active village garage on the other.
If I can help fill in any gaps please ask
Good luck with your research

I am researching Astons Garages and Astons Coaches of Marton
The garage in Spon End that is now a tyre depot was for many years Astons Austin showroom. Before that did Bunty use it or was it the building nearer the bridges that Bunty used?
Bunty was always on the other side of the railway arches. As far as I can tell Aston's didn't occupy the Spon End premises until the 1950s. Before that it was a rag-tag of old buildings. The garage was sold to Marsham Tyres some time in the 1960s.

Did Astons build this garage?
The coach is a Bedford OB belonged to Coventry Theatre Group
I did at first wonder if there was something I didn't know, like did Astons Coaches start at Spon End but seems unlikely - unless someone knows better

In the 1950's there was a small coach garage at the top end of Dennis Road, in Wyken/Stoke Heath, on the corner opposite the Gents Hairdressers and Post Office. Can somebody remind me, who did that belong to? Was it RHMS? |

Mods note : This thread as "Bunty's Coaches" has widened into discussion of other coach companies, and as there was already quite a lot of similar discussion on the "Local Hauliers (was Morton's)" thread, it seemed sensible to merge the two into one |

Could it have been Supreme Coaches? I remember there being a coach yard there as we used to check their fuel pumps from time to time. I'm not certain of the name, but have a recollection of the coaches being light and dark blue. Anyone else help?

A friend of mine went out with a girl called Pat Bonas around 1969, I believe she was the daughter of the then owners. She lived near Coundon Court School. She'd be coming up to 60 nowadays. |
