My husband was born in 1942 and his dad was a Co-op worker so I suppose he was keen to get him on the books |

Ours was 695, but as you know there were many branches with separate dealings. Ours was in Keresley End and was under the umbrella of Lockhurst Lane. We went there a lot, it being opposite the top of the road, but often things were stale/overripe there - I didn't know until I grew up that the Co-op was any more 'ethical' than anywhere else! |

Yes, You may have known Cyril Roberts then Jeff, he worked upstairs in the gents outfitters for a number of years. A real
gentleman. He was my dear father in law.

Hi all,
I have refrained from scanning & posting the photos on our forum, as that removes the value of them for the calendar. Maybe this time next year might be more appropriate for the odd posting as the pictures are really good. |

Philip, it would be good if you would scan some pictures from the calendar. I worked for Lockhurst Lane Co-op for a few months in 1963 as a 15 year old while I waited to join the navy (exactly 50 years today). I was moved around the various grocery branches wherever they needed a dogsbody. I worked at the main shop at the Wolfe, on the corner of Holmesdale Road, Lockhurst Lane branch, Bell Green, Windmill Road and even the warehouse just over Lockhurst Lane bridge. I loved it but the wages at the Co-op were very poor for everyone, even senior people. |

Morning Philip,
Some of us I am sure would appreciate that then, if and when you are ready. Have a good day everyone. |

This was discussed last evening and Rob and all the moderators were in complete agreement that, for now, no scans of this calendar should appear on this forum, so as not to devalue the calendar and the photographs for those who have received one.
Maybe at a much later date, and with the permission of the Co-op, we will be able to post some.
We trust members will understand our decision. |

Hi all
My sister came to visit from Wales over the weekend to celebrate her ruby wedding - amongst all the many subjects talked about was the Co-op built and since gone, by the Town Crier pub - what was on the land before the Co-op was built, was it the GEC? |
