There are so many people who contribute to this site who obviously love their city, as I do, in-spite of the things that we don't like, that it would be lovely to shake hands at a convenient venue. I do not mean in ball gowns, or to undertake interrogations, like at some school reunions. I am heartened by postings on here where people have bothered to visit a site in order to answer a query, or put up pictures. I realise that some contributors live hundreds of miles away, and such a meeting is out of the question. I will wait to see what Rob has to say on this. Call me a simple softy (I am that), but I love this site & its well meaning. ps. Please forgive me if this already takes place.

What a wonderful idea Philip in Coventry and you would certainly not be a softy. Although I could not be there I would have loved to read all the postings and no doubt they would be most entertaining for all of us "downunder''. It is not such a big world when one can communicate on a site as this. I am interested to see what Rob has to say too.

I prefer to remain anonymous myself, I know some others who do too. There's a lot of work I do on the internet which I couldn't do if everyone knew my identity.

Sorry Dutchman, they would just have to go without you then. Joking apart, judging by your picture you would only be there in spirit anyway, but you have aged well !

The issue of identity can cause problems where other ramifications could be compromised. I had business interests where only a couple of years ago, I would not have been so open about such a meeting. The thing is that now, armed with my bus pass (I hope that it remains), I do bump into former colleagues from time to time. Sadly, as I age so do they & it's not always good news when we share stories. I am grateful that I at least at present have my health & strength to get about. Whilst any of us can meet up, to do so in the name of this site, I believe that we should receive the blessing of the founder. This site is too valuable to compromise in anyway. Best wishes Philip

Well, I must say, this is a wonderful idea, and I feel flattered - honoured actually - to have been asked to "give it my blessing". I have to confess, I'm not a fan at all of school reunions or general large group gatherings of that sort, and I usually prefer a quiet "put the world to rights" type of drink with a mate or two, but the people who visit this forum seem so genuine that I really can't turn down such a thoughtful idea. I also appreciate that anonymity is preferred by some, and I totally understand that - I always shy away from publicity myself and find it generally more comfortable to hide behind my website. However, there would obviously be no pressure at all on anyone in this case, and if a few members wish to meet up then it can't be a bad thing. Of course, it didn't require my permission or blessing for this to happen - but like I said, I feel very proud that this forum has brought so many like-minded people together, and it has to be worth a try. For now, Cheers! Cheers

Brilliant idea, no problem here, I have nothing to shy away for, I would travel from "Bucks". This is, as already mentioned, a brilliant site, and it certainly brings genuine "Cov Kids" together with their memories Perhaps we could have a genuine Coventry Transport Bus in attendance as well for some atmosphere ? Great Idea, put the subject out to the membership and see how many more will "show their face"!! Wink Peter.

I feel a Saturday 9am breakfast coming on at Wetherspoons. Wetherspoons, because it is central & probably as good as anywhere on a Saturday morning. Nice sausage too. (The old Timothy Whites). I will keep an eye on the weather.

That's it then, I can almost smell those sausages from here!!! Sounds perfect to me. Don't ask me to be the organiser though.... I'm rubbish at that sort of thing - just ask the missus! Wink Assuming though that whatever we agree on probably won't be ready to happen in the next couple of weeks, I'll be away with the family on the Isle of Wight near the end of July, so early August onwards might be best. Friday nights or weekends are best for me though - I wonder what suits everyone else? Cheers for now, Cheers Rob

It only needs a couple of us to say hello for now and things can go from there without anything being specifically arranged. The ballgowns, dressed suits with top hats where we book a hotel for a couple of hundred guests plus families and invite their Worships and so on, complete with a fleet of 'airbus' charter planes can all come later, I might suggest! (joke). It's easy for me (with my bus pass), to arrive at Wetherspoons within thirty minutes of leaving home, but I realise that it's not so easy for everyone. Unless some unforeseen event turns up, I will aim to have breakfast at 9am this Saturday, 9th, at Wetherspoons, as I often do anyway. I do not need much of an excuse for having a few Saturday breakfasts, so it is no trouble for me. In time, I am sure something can be worked out. Rome was not built in a day. I hope you all that are going away, enjoy your holidays, that is more important.

This may be hard to believe but I'm actually a lot less cheerful-looking in real life than my picture would suggest. Some people have even gone so far as to say I'm a right miserable so-and-so, but I can't imagine where they got that impression from? Lol

Well, that sounds good to me, and I look forward to seeing you there. Hopefully I can get up early enough, being a weekend and all that, but I'll definitely strive to get to Wetherspoons by 9:30am if not sooner. Despite living in Coventry all my life, I've only been in that place once, so where should I expect to see you when I arrive? Cheers for now, Cheers Rob

Hi, Rob. Going through the main entrance, the dining room is immediately on the right & up a couple of steps. I will be there. Wetherspoons provides breakfast for several of the self stay hotels in the city and opens very early every day for that. I am sure that we all have our own favorite eating & drinking out sites, I recently fell in love with one in Atherstone, but that would not be convenient for this. Wetherspoons is as near the centre as one can get. Without promoting advertisements, over the coming weeks, may-be some suggestions for other meeting/eating points might be helpful. I am mindful that physical meetings are not everyones cup of tea & I fully respect that. The beauty of breakfast time is that we can say hello, & still maintain the rest of the day for our activities, whereas evenings tend to be more finite. Best wishes to you all Philip.
