Yup, at six times a day for the last ten years I must have around 22,000 those. |

The forum's averaging around 400 hits per day this year, so my prediction is that it will hit the next milestone of two million on about the 18th - next Saturday.
Some statistical information:
Once someone looks at the forum, wherever they are in the world, it counts as 1 "hit" for that day - any other views by the same person that day do not increase the counter, which resets at midnight.
Around 40 to 50 members look each day, so all the members viewing over the last nearly 12 years accounts for approaching 200,000 of the total hits. Therefore about 90% of the forum's views are by miscellaneous people around the world (including hackers with their ulterior motives! ). |

WOW, thanks folks!!!!! Amazing stuff, who'd have thought that this little home-grown forum would attract so much attention! Thank you all for such wonderful contributions - all I did was write some amateur software - it's all of you who have brought it to life! |

I meant to ask after reading some of those posts. what happened to Dutchman? He was posting when I first started on here but he just stopped. I was nice to see a lot of names in those first posts who are still loyal forumites and mods. |

Anne, he still visits regularly and updates his 'signature' to reflect some recent news item. I have seen a photo of him in his mask, so he's following at least some of the Covid protocols |

Hi Philip,
www.historiccoventryforum.co.uk hasn't gone live yet, although as you'd have already seen, it is there and well on the way to being set up for use.
BUT ... after much work, I've decided that today is SWITCH-OVER SATURDAY!!! Here's the plan ...
Approx. 11AM: image uploads and new posts will be suspended or an hour or so, to allow me to save all images and the database. For up to an hour I will be working on changing all instances of historiccoventryforum.co.uk to historiccoventryforum.co.uk, and redirecting all 10,000+ image links, as well as many other little things. (One 'behind the scenes' change is that each member who uploads an image will now have their own folder, rather than all images residing in one enormous folder.)
Approx. 12 noon: The forum will continue as if nothing has changed on www.historiccoventryforum.co.uk. Anyone who goes to the 'old' URL will see a home-page that looks a bit like this . . .
Historic Coventry ForumPlease note, the new address for this website ishttps://www.historiccoventryforum.co.uk |

And . . . the first member onto to the new site since launch is . . . . . . . Fourmilier, closely followed by mcsporran!
I hope all works well. There are a couple of tiny new features that I can introduce now. Before I do, I've ditched one item that was rarely used - the Street View section. It was a pain to maintain, and all the street images are more easily obtained by either a forum search, or looking in Robs pics or Coventry Digital.
Anyway, occasionally members like to use an image from another post in their own. So now, when you see a post containing uploaded images (not externally linked ones), you'll see a little link at the bottom saying "Copy image(s) for a post". Hovering over this will reveal thumbnails of the post's images, which you can click to copy into memory (a window pops up for you to acknowledge). When you then go to make your post, the "Insert image" icon will be above the text-entry-box, and clicking this will insert the chosen image into your post.
Also, among the icons above the text-entry-box is a new one - Deg |

PROFILE IMAGES
Hi all,
Something I've long meant to do, but only just got around to, is making members' profile or "avatar" images editable or delete-able. Anyone wishing to check their uploaded photos can easily do so from your "Your images" page - easily accessible from the toolbar, where it says "Logged in as...". That page will display any:
* Forum images
* Gallery images
* Profile (Avatar) images
* Jigsaw images
* Stereoview images
....that you may have. Over the years, some members might have built up many surplus uploaded photos, so might like to take this opportunity to delete any that are no longer required, or edit any using this site's inbuilt basic image editor. |

I've just been taking a look at forum features that might or might not be useful, and one that I've just noticed is the Categories link in the toolbar.
With all the topic categories now being displayed permanently down the left side of each page, is the "Categories" link/page an additional item that we can now do without? |
