Sandwiched in between two shops is is a prefab shop, Lilley's Green Grocery. I had a Saturday morning job there in 1962. Derek Lilley, the son, was in charge by then.
When I started, being only fourteen, I could only work four hours. Loved it though. Loading spuds from sacks into bushel boxes was my game.
By the time that ariel picture was taken, demolition is not far away, whilst the green grocery trade was being swallowed up by big store shopping.
Derek Lilley's son Keith is an academic now and had a strong hand in the new map of historical Coventry alongside another Coventrian, cartographer Giles Darke.

I went to one of my favourite vintage/antique stores in Brighton- Snooper's paradise- and I found this gorgeous portrait of a member of the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.
It credits Tayler Bros, 20 Primrose Hill Street, Coventry, Phone 4970 and a note on the front saying "best wishes, Cynil, 27/4/4..." I'm only guessing the year starts with a 4 as it looks similar to the number 4 next to it- however it's hard to tell what the last number is as the ink is fading and it was written really small. But my best guess is 45. Hopefully this finds a family member of the young man in the picture or maybe I could get some more info about the image!
