All - Apologies as I'm sure this has been asked before but I could not find it and after a trip on the ring road earlier I noticed this again but still do not know what it is / for? Brick building on Fairfax Street

I believe someone suggested it was an electricity sub-station. But I doubt it will last much longer. Plan for huge student complex on city centre car park

Planning records label it as being an electricity sub station. Strangely no mention of it that I could find in the planning application for the new monstrosity.

Looks good. Retail units on ground level hopefully bringing life to dead streets, fills in empty land and hides the ring road. Good on the council for making them go back and redesigning.

The sub-station doesn't appear on the site plan of the proposed ground floor.

There appears to be an indication on the far left of the drawing where the text "El Sub Sta" appears. Would that be it?

Don't think so, Tony - that appears to be on the edge of the "new" Pool Meadow bus station - I think it's a coach drop-off point across the road from the bingo hall

I think this is the building in 1953 Britain from Above. Still doesn't help to know what it is !

The buildings behind the baths are not on the 1923 map online but are on the 1938 one.

I took these some time ago hoping to see something interesting about the city wall. The building appears to be empty.

Do you think the insets in the walls could have had windows in. Also the roof is an odd shape, could it have held a water tank perhaps.

Nice shots Heathite - not like the City Council to leave anything of age still standing - especially if it's empty!
