Apologies if this has been posted before, but here is a fascinating silent film of various views of the city centre. Broadgate & City Centre 1950

So who here remembers the kiddie roundabout in West Orchard? (3m06s) It looks very much like the one used later in the circular market?

Both Lyons and the pre-war Salmon & Gluckstein shop in Broadgate were owned by the same Salmon family of which the most famous descendant is probably TV chef Nigella Lawson. Her mother was Nigel Lawson's first wife, Vanessa Salmon.

Hi Mick Wave 'Salmon' is a very common surname among Jewish emigres so probably related, but not very closely. Smile

As Jaytob mentioned back in post 86, the tarmac "patchwork" is temporarily filling the areas reserved for electric hook-up points. But I do agree about the whole area appearing a little "bleak". I'm going to reserve final judgement until its totally completed.
Here's a recent pic from the Telegraph website. LINK Seems that 'temporary' tarmacing isn't quite as temporary as we were led to believe. in fact it appears a bit bigger now.

Yes, they need another £5000 in order to complete the restoration of the engine.
