Something I've been planning to do for a long, long time has just started to come to fruition. I've made a start on scanning in the few old maps I have in order to make them available to you all via Historic Coventry. From what I've read, Ordnance Survey based maps are out of copyright 50 years after first publishing, so displaying them shouldn't be breaking any rules. And if I'm wrong, then.... let's live dangerously!!!
You've probably already seen my hand-drawn "streets through the ages" maps, but now you will be able to view scans of "proper" maps, covering a much wider area. I began yesterday by adding a basic street-plan of Coventry in 1954, and today I've just added Coventry 1936 and a very detailed map of Stoke & Binley from 1926. How many of the streets where you now live were around then? I know mine wasn't!
It's a slow laborious job scanning section by section on an A4 scanner, so it might be a while before I get round to adding more, but I hope you can all enjoy this beginning. When you select a map from the top-menu, it might take a short while to load in - although I've compressed them to just over 1.5Mb, so it shouldn't be too bad.
You can click your mouse on the map and drag it around to see "further out", and in the bottom right corner you can also zoom in to x4 magnification.
Have fun....

By the way, in future these maps are easy to get to via the "Street maps" link on the left-hand menu. |

You're all very welcome!
Sometime over the next few days I hope to find time to scan my other 1926 map - Wyken & Walsgrave.
Thanks again for all the kindness.

I know the years pass me by quite quickly, but is this some new form of language that I have totally missed out on? |

Probably some kind of Spanish percussion to accompany the castanets!
I was originally going to say "he's from Barcelona", but I believe that "Spirit" began life a bit more locally! On 15th Feb 2012 10:24pm, The spirit of Coventry said:

That's OK, don't worry (or should that be "no worries"!) I did actually understand what you meant - I was joking about current terminology (and me getting older!) |
