On 15th July 1981 Warwickshire commenced what would prove to be the penultimate County Championship match ever to be played on Courtaulds Ground. At the end of the day, visitors Leicestershire were 80-1 in reply to Warwickshire's paltry 136 all out, in which skipper Dennis Amiss's 27 was top score. The home side went on to lose the match by an innings and 61 runs. |

Hi MR
The Paybody picture is such a reminder to me, although that is the entrance to the main single storey hospital building further inside, that was demolished. Thank you. |

On 16th July 2007, Coventry Stadium staged Round 1 of the FIM Speedway World Cup. Great Britain were victorious on 60 points, ahead of Sweden (49), Russia (27) and USA (20). Scott Nicholls topped the score charts for GB with a 15 point maximum, with Chris Harris on 14, Lee Richardson 11, Simon Stead 10, Eddie Kennett 10.
Jonas Davidsson top scored for Sweden with 16 points from reserve, Dennis Gizatullin recorded 11 for Russia and Greg Hancock (15) was USA's top rider.
Sadly, GB went on to finish last in the final in Leszno, Poland, behind the host country (55), Denmark (52) and Australia (29). Again Scott Nicholls top scored, with 7 points, with Lee Richardson (4), Chris Harris (3) and Simon Stead (1) the other contributors to a paltry 15 points total. |

(Nothing's changed there then, as anyone whose children have demanded a birthday party to match their friend's 'grand event' will know! ) |

I remember going to the zoo and being upset by the elephant. It was displayed in an enclosure made entirely of concrete with a chain attached to one of its legs. It stood there just rocking from side to side. Never have liked zoos since. So glad attitudes towards how we treat wild animals have changed over the years. |
