It's probably a long shot to ask, but is there any way at all please that anyone might be able to tell me how I can find out how old this particular pub here is, which is located along the Foleshill Road next door to Foleshill Fire Station! The Pub is called the "THREE HORSE SHOES" and it's a place that I pop in to from time to time for a quick Coke or two. I was only in there again yesterday afternoon and on asking the landlord there if he might have any idea at all as to the age of the pub, he seemed to think it was about 100 years old, so obviously dating it to around 1917 time? Me personally would have said it was built around the early to mid 1930's, but out of curiosity, it would be great to find out exactly when it was built and I did tell the landlord that I'd do my best to hopefully find the answer for him? I have an old photograph of a tram travelling along the Foleshill Road in the late 1930's and much to my surprise, the "THREE HORSE SHOES" Pub can be seen in the background of the photo, so that dates it to being around 80 years old already!!!! Any help with this query would be very much appreciated and I thank you all in advance!

The Three Horseshoes has been there since 1861 according to RealAleRambles.co.uk. The current building looks more modern.

"THANK YOU" for your quick reply there McSporran, as it's very much appreciated! I notice on the current THREE HORSE SHOES pub that its type of brickwork, and style in general, looks very similar to that which I've seen before on a few other pubs across the city and possibly even beyond? (Maybe that then dates them all to a certain era possibly?)

On 22nd May 2014 2:29pm, NeilsYard said: Yes, Norm's correct - the club was in Watch Close and is still there and last I knew operated as Laser Quest though it looked like it was not in the best of condition the last time I saw it. The O'Briens used to own it. Their daughter Michelle and her mum used to collect the entrance fee inside the door. I was always quite keen on her - always immaculately dressed if I recall. Big grin
Neil - have a look through today's "On this day" Telegraph photos Wink

With its makeover now complete,"THE OLD SHEPHERD" pub on the Keresley Road re-opened its doors again today, with a freshly repainted exterior and newly refurbished interior! I popped in there earlier this evening to have a quick look at it and as you can imagine for its first day back open, the place was really really busy, but a warm welcome was received as always by the friendly staff in there, which is always nice to see!

My wife and I held our wedding reception in the Three Horseshoes pub in Foleshill Road in 1961 I also spent some months in that fire station in the 1950's Delivered milk to the tram depot in the forties Caught trams from that depot in the thirties So there's a little bit of historic memory in that piece of ground for me, don't you think.

This is a great picture! Thanks a lot for posting! Do any members of this threat have any pub pics that they would be willing to share for my forthcoming book on Cov in the 1970s? I write a lot about pubs but have been able to find only a few images. Would be much appreciated. All the best to all. Ruth

Hi Ruth You can get recent photos of Coventry pubs via the Street View option in Google Earth - for example, the Biggin Hall Hotel on the Binley Road - one of my old haunts:

So The Kamara Lounge (Butts Retreat) lasted about a month. It closed again a few weeks back. Now a sign has gone up outside advertising coming soon "The Hamptons" Indian restaurant and bar. Hope they manage to make a go of it this time.
