And that "Street index" feature, if you recall Helen, is because of your own fantastic suggestion! So many thanks for that super idea. Cheers Thumbs up

Does anyone remember a pub crawl in the 1950s organised I believe by the rugby clubs of Coventry called the Coventry Walk? It entailed visiting twenty six pubs between The White Lion on Gosford Green and The Bowling Green in Spon St. A half a pint had to be drunk in each pub and a card signed by the landlord as proof. I think the route was along Far Gosford St, Gosford St, Jordan Well, Earl St, High St, Broadgate, Smithford St, Fleet St and Spon St. The pubs I can still recall were The White Lion, The Pitts Head, The Hertford Arms, The Hand and Heart, The Golden Cup, The Peacock (and one opposite next to Luckmans Bookshop?), The Fox and Vivian, The Oak, The Colin Campbell, The Acorn, The Dun Cow, The Mermaid, The Rose and Crown, The Craven Arms, Waters Wine Bar, The Shakespeare, The Rising Sun, The Windmill, The Bowling Green. Can anyone remember the rest?

Great work as always Rob Thumbs up I think for the purposes of Old-Coventry research we need to start sampling more of them! Cheers

Rob, I appreciate the option. I had set up a clunky Excel based version for myself but figured you could do it properly. Thumbs up Neil, even though I've got copies of stuff, I still prefer using Rob's interface. The pub site is a grand addition. I found my way around the old city because of the building numbers. Speaking of which - The Magnet on Smithford Street was number 20 (south side just west of the Barracks in 1911.) You can just see the tips of the magnet in the street scene below and a better shot from a picture at street level. Forum library image

Fantastic find for me as I have just found out my grandfather, Frederick J Toseland, held the licence for the Brewer and Baker from 1929 to 1932. Thumbs up

The top one is from the library but I can't remember where I got the other one from. It's part of a bigger picture of a Godiva procession. Ha, found it - here Lol crossh9 posted it back in 2013. It's the 1911 procession.

Thank you Helen - I should've checked the image-file name, shouldn't I !? Blush I've just written to "crossh9" to ask permission to use the photo. She hasn't posted since 2014, but you never know!

Cheers Not sure, it's been many years ago but was The Gate also called The Gate Hangs Well, just down the road from the Three Shuttles, it had a sign showing a gold gate. My mother lived and brought up in 22 George St, gran and my aunts and uncles lived in George St until they eventually passed away. The Gate, the Shuttles and the Woodbine were their "locals" along with the Stanton Club and the Howitzers Cheers
