MR. Interested in these two photos of it - says City Wall. Can't place it, is this part of the original city wall as we would like to look next time down. Have you a post code for it?

Secret is in the details at the bottom, this long stretch of wall is in Gulson Road, the part that would continue to a link with Gosford Gate.

Prof. St Agnes was past the entrance to Pool Meadow and the fire station. The steps via a passage way I believe led into Bishop St, or was it Silver St?

As I understand it Kaga, St Agnes Lane was roughly where the back entrance and/or fire exit of the New Hippodrome (Coventry Theatre) was before demolition.

I know there are many of this view to include The Old Tower Tavern but was struck by the good detail especially of the property on the very right. Shared on FB by my friend Dean Nelson.

Prof Yes, but it was a bit different in those days Hales Street was outside the fire station, and the way I read it Agnes Lane ran across from there, Pool Meadow unused.

Kaga, St Agnes Lane was roughly parallel to Chauntry Place and the city wall. They emerged onto Hales Street on either side of what was to become the New Hippodrome. Chauntry Place was just behind and to the right of the photographer in Neil's photo. St Agnes Lane wasn't much further back.

Looks like the building on the right was itself altered later, and only perhaps a decade or two before it was demolished. The photo below is probably from around the time of WW1.... Forum library image

Coventry : Excavations On The Town Wall 1976-78 Available on eBay. It's a proper technical book but interesting and a reasonable price for that sort of thing. From memory it covers some of the digs to the north of the city but not the south.

Confession, I bought it! Arrived this morning. Main reason I bought it was the picture on the front is the gate where my ancestors lived. Hope the other bid wasn't someone on HC. Got it for £7.50.

I'm always happy when one of our gang gets a good old book or postcard. Recycling at its best.
